Lions Provide Glasses for Schoolchildren
Georgetown Lions Club voted to provide eye tests and glasses for two public school children whose parents cannot afford them. The action was left to the Light Conservation Committee chaired by Riley Brothour. Ray Whitnss reported on his Lions Convention trip and McIntyre Arena highlights. The club noted Britain relief totals exceed $87,000 from donations. Plans were discussed for a bandshell in the park with an architect to start this fall. A future meeting will be a September dinner at Crofton Villa Cooksville.

Parachutists Die in Plane Crash Near Shelburne Farm
William H. Townsend 32 and Grant Kinsley 20 were killed when Townsend's Tiger Moth crashed near Kinsley's Shelburne farm. Townsend, an RCAF veteran, had performed here recently with a barnstorming group and is survived by his wife from Harriston, married last year.

Death of John Ritchie in Georgetown District
Well known Georgetown resident John Ritchie died suddenly on a Sunday evening after dinner while on his front porch. Born in Guelph 67 years ago, he had lived in Georgetown for thirty years and worked at the Dominion Seed Home and previously at the Paper Mill. He is survived by his wife Margaret Wood Alexander and twelve children, with seven sons and five daughters, plus a sister in Toronto and a great grandchild. Funeral conducted by Rev. William Weir of Brampton with burial at Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown. Pallbearers named John Allen, Lorne Allen, Thomas Grieve, Fred Armstron, Donald Latimer, and James Russell.

Burlington Woman Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Sinclair G. Richardson of Roseland Port Nelson died at her home after a lengthy illness. She was the mother of Florence Richardson now Mrs. Wilfred Searle, who has appeared in town as a vocal soloist at St. George's Church. Mrs. Richardson had stayed at the Rectory with Archdeacon and Mrs. W. G. C. Thompson, who asked Archdeacon Thompson to conduct the funeral service yesterday.

Provincial Picnic at Stanley Park Draws 150 Attendees
The Pro-Vincval Maper Tuk plant picnic at Stanley Park Erin drew about 150 people on Saturday. Bus trips featured sports and entertainment organized by a committee including Iwan Turabtree Trevor Williams Dennis Wright Dick Packer and Ernest Hyde. The races included a marathon open to men 9 to 90 with Jack Kemshead and Will Chaplin tied for first. a softball game and a diving exhibition by Chuck Davies were noted.

Alliance Mill Manager Dies After Long Illness
Georgetown resident Joseph Gillis longtime Alliance Coating Mill manager died August 21 in St Josephs Hospital Hamilton after months of illness. Born in Merrittton 49 years ago he served Merrittton town council and hydro commission and played and managed the Merrittton baseball team. He was a WWI veteran with military honors and belonged to Livingstone Dodge 120 TOOP and Atlantic Lodge 614 AF and AM. Survived by wife Nell Gillis two children two brothers and six sisters. Funeral held at Winter and Winter in St Catharines with burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial service by L O C F followed Monday.

William Gowdy Long of Limehouse moved to Acton in 1943 and died in Toronto General Hospital at 78. He headed the Toronto Lime Co plants at Limehouse and Dolly Varden, served as Limehouse church leader, mayoral candidate in Esquesine Township years, and sat on the S.S. 9 school board. He was survived by his wife Mary A Hoappman, son Douglas Morrison Gowdy, a brother Thomas, and two sisters.

Public School Rooms Rede decorated at Georgetown
Four rooms at Georgetown Public School will have the New Look when fall term opens. Decorator L A Coxe of Ashgrove applies finishing touches this week. Rooms feature pink and blue green, continuing the board's redecorating plan begun last year. Caretaker Tom Warnes coats seats, replaces broken windows, and handles odds and ends to ready the school for September 7.

Polio Case Confirmed in Acton Area
A second poliomyelitis case is reported by Halton County Health Unit. The patient, a 12 year old Sarnia boy, arrived in Acton with no visit and no contact with local children. He is in hospital in Toronto. Ontario records sixteen polio cases with one death in the week ending August 14. One case is in Peel County and one in Orangeville. No single outbreak is evident across the province.

Perry’s Body and Fender Repairs Moves to Glen Williams
John Perry moves his body and fender repair business from Toronto to a garage near the main corner by William Schenk in Glen Williams. He has run the shop since 1945 after military service, previously at Yonge and Castefield, employing three men.
