Bad Crash at Limehouse Sends Six to Hospital
At the Sixth Line and Limehouse Road intersection on Saturday August 11 a collision between a 1955 Pontiac driven by Kees Van Lier and a north bound light truck led to the car overturning twice and ending in a ditch. Six people were injured including Van Lier and passengers Alice Gibbs Gordie Van Lier and others. They were treated at the scene by Dr. Alan Thompson and were later transported by ambulance.

An accident near Acton involved a pickup truck and a 1955 Pontiac. The chiropractor and the bride were the most seriously injured and taken to Guelph General Hospital by a Rumley ambulance from Acton. Vehicle damage totaled about $300. OPP officers Howard Gunn and George Moore investigated.

Harley Lowe Named Fifth Town Constable
Harley Lowe 29 of Toronto was hired by council as a probationary constable completing Georgetown’s small police force roster. He previously served as a constable and police chief in Bridgetown Nova Scotia and worked with Pinkerton agencies in Toronto. The police roster now includes Chief Roy Haley, Corporal Jim Billborrow and Constables Nelson Trafford Ted Scott and Lowe. The meeting also discussed upgrading the municipal building door and resolving land and road issues including Maple Avenue extension and potential expropriation if no agreement by next Monday.

Four local ladies attended the Bronte United Church funeral for Rev. Arthur Page who died August 3 at his Beamsville home. Born 1891 in Loftus England he came to Canada in 1914 and served in Blenheim Belmont Thamesville Exeter Owen Sound and Bronte. Survived by his wife Eva Grogan and son Dr. John Page. Buried in Brampton Cemetery.

Gravel Skid Damages Car Near Terra Cotta
An accident on August 8 near Terra Cotta caused $200 damage to a car owned by Thomas Dillon. Dillon, recently purchasing the Martin Estate, was driving south on the 11th line when gravel caused a skid into the east ditch. He and his son Patrick, a passenger, were uninjured after the car struck a sign post.

Truck Smashes Into White Rose Station in Derry West
A dump truck swerved out of control on No. 10 Highway in Derry West on Tuesday August 7. It sheared a gastine pump and light standard then crashed through the plate glass of White Rose Station causing about 4000 dollars in damage to the station and minor damage to the truck. Driver Osyt Kawun, 40, of Ryerson Avenue Toronto said he lost control while braking. No injuries occurred but local man Bob Simson of Ontario Street stayed to guard the station overnight after a day’s work.
