Maple Avenue road opening for fall school term urged

Council discussed completing the Maple Avenue extension by September to allow children to walk to Wrigglesworth School. The town solicitor reported ongoing property purchases with three owners approached. report due next Monday. The road is key to the park district shift from Chapel Street to Wrigglesworth with two school shifts.

Prizewinners Named in Norval Girls Softball Club Draw

Prizes in a Toronto Malton Norval draw went to residents with Brian Evans drawing tickets at Richardson's Store. First prize went to John Clemenson Malton for a mantle radio. Gwen Blades Toronto won second prize electric iron. Fran Leslie Norval took third prize a kitchen clock.

Norval Grass Fire Threatens Wheat Field at Norval Station

Georgetown firemen battled a minor blaze sparked by a freight train near Norval Station on July 31 at about 4.45 pm. Dry grass burned but was controlled without water, narrowly endangering Arthur Clark’s wheat field.

July Weather Deemed Odd With Cool Temperatures

The month of July showed a maximum average of 74 degrees and a minimum of 55, both below normal. Only four days rose above 80 and a single day reached 86. Five nights fell to the 40s, with a low of 44, and 15 days brought five inches of rain, over two inches above normal. August offers unusual weather as the weekend nears.

Howard Hillock 51 office manager at Alliance Paper Mills Ltd died in Toronto General Hospital where he had been a patient since mid April He served 32 years with the company advancing from Georgetown Coated Paper Co to Alliance after 1930 He was a World War I veteran and Unmarried, survived by a sister and three brothers Funeral held Monday at 30 Queen Street with interment in Greenwood Cemetery Montreal He had been active with Knox Presbyterian Church and North Hatton Golf and Country Club

Georgetown Pool Opens Amid Fund Drive Shortfall

The Georgetown community celebrated the new pool’s opening last Sunday, with the project now at about 38,000 of its 50,000 dollar goal. The pool sits 105 by 45 feet, holds 250 000 gallons, and lifeguards include Mary Jones and Peter Sholz as the committee plots a formal opening next year under a recreation association.
