Eight carloads of long fed steers totaling 150 head arrived at the local stockyards from Jesse Lowther of Coleridge. Cattle averaged 1335 pounds selling at 8 50 per hundred, up from 856 pounds priced at 5 85 eight months earlier. Average gain 470 pounds per beast with 3 65 per hundred gain in price. Lowther says this will be his last lot for the season as he awaits fall market finishes.

Pig and chickens perish as silo area tumbles
A man was shaken but unharmed after a structural collapse involving high wire and wooden fences. A 100 pound pig lay nearby after being carried from a shed beside the cow barn. A silo cover was displaced and a setting hen with chicks was found at the silo bottom. the hen survived while the chicks were killed.
