One man drowns near Ashland while attempting rescue. total losses run into thousands of dollars.
Pittsburgh reports Halstead, a Jersey City tailor, charged with bigamy after Captain Parker, presumed drowned, returns to learn his wife wed Halstead in Brownsville. Parker then travels to Pittsburgh, files charges, and Halstead is jailed. Also tied to larceny of about $600 in Parker’s goods.

The Washington Organ praises a Southern proslavery platform as the North resists. It asserts the South will support the platform, buoyed by accusations against the Locofocos and Free States, predicting strong future gains for the American party across Virginia and other Southern states, while warning that the North remains divided and unreliable for slavery.
