Witches and magic take show in Illyria festival

Fan blamed for second story bedroom fire

A fan in an upstairs bedroom window pulled curtains into its rotating blades, overheated the motor, and ignited the curtains. Firefighters said the flames began around 7 p.m. Saturday at John Tom Reisner residence in Oelwein. Damage was confined to the second floor bedroom with smoke spread to the rest of the second story.

May trade deficit drops as oil and coffee imports fall

The Commerce Department reports May imports fell 8 percent to just over 11.6 billion while exports rose 4 percent to nearly 10.4 billion, cutting the May trade deficit to 1.2 billion. The year to date deficit nears 9.8 billion, with oil imports down 625 million and coffee imports down 144 million.
