Arlington News Ends Publication Under L H Ryan
The Arlington News published its final edition on Thursday under editor L H Ryan as Arlington Publishing Co suspends publication due to high labor costs. Ryan and his wife lament the decision and note efforts to publish without adequate help are nearly impossible. Richard Westerfield of Fayette County Union will service remaining subscribers. the Ryans plan to relocate, possibly to a western state.

Taylor Farm House Damaged By Fire Near Clermont
Special report from Clermont says a fire on the Jim Taylor farm one mile east of town started in an overheated oil stove in the basement and spread to the kitchen and dining room. The native rock house limited spread and insurance partially covers the loss. Clermont fire department responded with about 50 volunteers. A second call that afternoon battled a grass fire on the Lee Palmer farm six miles east in Lane.

The Polk County grand jury found no sufficient evidence to indict any state Officials or employees over the war surplus commodities board and state car dispatcher's office. It urged that affairs were loosely handled with inadequate accounting and staffing, following an affidavit by Elmer Croft alleging irregular dealings. Switzer and Grothe directed the probe. J F Ungerer 89 Dies in Hawkeye
J F Ungerer aged 89 died at his daughter s home in Hawkeye at 3 00 Friday. He was born near West Union on March 14 1859 and married Magdaline Schlatter on April 12 1883. Eleven of their thirteen children survive along with 41 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church Hawkeye with burial there.

Four Sumner Polio Victims Treated at Iowa City

Two children 12 year old Jimmy Neiman and three year old Dorothy Fridley show mild attack with partial paralysis.
