West Union special describ es Fred Rothlisberger and sons of Elgin and Mrs. Sarah Dixon of Fayette winning top honors in the short horn open class beef cattle judging at the Fayette County Fair. About 175,000 people attended a record fair week crowd as Children’s Day featured the white horse show and afternoon and evening performances. Lyle Welsh of Oelwein won first in the 4-H baby beef Angus division. Winners include Mrs. Sarah Dixon Fayette shorthorn bull two years and over and senior yearling bull, Rothlisberger and sons bull four months and under one year, junior yearling heifer, cow four years and over, grand and junior champion females. Frank Dempster Arlington won all classes in Polled Shorthorns. Rothlisberger also claimed Hampshire and Southdown divisions, with Lyle Welsh, Oelwein, and Paul Smith, Elgin, placing. Earl Sembke, Elgin, was grand and reserve champion Hereford overall, with Wayne Gibbs, Orrin Bane Jr., Elgin mentioned.
