Funeral services for Pfc. Gale Donat, son of Mr and Mrs Marion Donat of Randalia, will be at 3:00 pm Saturday August 21 at Union Church east of Sumner. Burial in Union Cemetery. Donat, born May 14 1925, attended Randalia and Banks township schools, graduated Maynard high in 1943, joined the army Det 28 1943, trained at Fort Benning, went overseas November 1944 with the Seventh Army 63rd division, died April 19 1945 near Hessental Germany. Surviving: his parents a sister Mrs Tom Samuelson Maynard and two brothers Stanley near Sumner and Eugene Waterloo.

In New Albany Indiana a seven year old minister's son was restrained by three playmates in a re enacted comic book plot. The children aged six to eight forced him into a woods with a knife at his neck, stripped him, and looped a rope around his neck. They pulled him toward the tree while dancing and set lit matches on his body. The victim freed himself and was found by a search party. The trio, who said they planned to hang one child every third Sunday, come from allegedly good families. Health official to discuss pool plans at city council
RUB McAllister area engineer for the state health department will meet the city council on September 7 to discuss swimming pool plans. Mayor Harrington said the council was told McAllister is visiting this week to gauge whether the health department will approve a pool with fewer facilities than the original Colwein project. The $40 000 bond from years ago does not cover the full cost of the now long delayed plans, which had state approval. The council also reviewed sidewalk repairs and agreed to inspect walks in urgent need of replacement with city clerk Cleon Spoo and city surveyor Karl Kraft assisting. Property owners on the must do list will be notified before contracts. The council scheduled a get together next week to discuss survey results and Frank Alrano’s popcorn stand permit near Frederick and 1st SW was approved, with bills allowed.
