The assailant Hicks Martin colored fled naked after the hit and is pursued by armed men. Shipe leaves a wife and four children. Martin, under 21, light colored and over 200 pounds, is said to be temperate and intelligent.
In Kroamisaran May 2 two young Hoosiers Henry Carr and Vanes Farr clashed in Hindootan County firing revolvers in the street. Both were wounded and taken to a physician. The feud has long divided their families with Farr the son of Der Farr and Carr the son of Charles Carr. Carr left for the scene with a doctor. Young Carr is described as a scmpukkencher and a gentlemanly, quiet youth.
Detroit reports a syndicate plans to tunnel the Detroit River with capital over 1000000. Engineers from Britain and Canada assess feasibility. The Michigan and Canada Tunnel Company, formed in Canada, intends to transact under Michigan laws and includes DLO Mills George Buis Laidias and Michigan Central officials among the backers.
A printers committee in Greeley Monument plans raises money to honor Horace Greeley. Porrsville Pa May 2 The last act in the miners strike ended with acquittals for all defendants on trial last week for complicity in the Shenandoah riot of February. The verdict came as a surprise as a conviction or hung jury had been expected.
A granite memorial marker five feet tall and two feet wide was placed yesterday at the site where Major-General Winfield Scott Hancock was wounded. The face bears the inscription Major-General Winfield Scott Hancock wounded July 3, 186?, and the back notes it was erected by comrades and friends.

Four travelers including Elmer Friend were crossing by skiff when a girl tossed a stone that struck him in the head, causing instant death from cerebral rupture. The event occurred after a May rainburst swelled the creek to river-like levels.

Minas May 22 The Emperor of Brazil shows signs of paralysis with loss of speech and labored breathing. Oxygen was given and injections used in an effort to revive him, yielding limited improvement but no clear indication of recovery.
Beath in Varnish Puinapririna Mas 22 reports a barrel explosion at H Haicket furniture factory. The blast mangled and killed John Cully a boy and David Clayton a colored man. Thomas Kenny another boy sustained severe injuries. All three were workers.

In Wilkes Barre on May 2 a wedding party en route to a Plymouth preacher's home collided with a carriage killing a young girl. The entire wedding party was arrested and the planned ceremony did not occur.
