Dan Brown who was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to six months in the penitentiary at hard labor for the killing of Adolph Zennecs, of the West, was pardoned yesterday by Governor McEnery. The pardon follows publication of an article concerning Brown’s alleged intimacy with a lady in Algiers.
Cincinnati February 21. The U S District Attorney moved a nolle prosequi to the indictment against J W Wilshire for violating banking laws tied to L Harper of the Fidelity National Bank. The court granted the motion and Wilshire and his bondsmen were released.
The Rev J G Price president of Livingston College at Salisbury has received a letter from Secretary Bayard announcing his appointment as Minister Resident and Consul General of the United States in Liberia. Price has not decided whether to accept the post.
Graff Bennett and Co a large iron maker assigned to BP H Miller. Liabilities range from 1,000,000 to 1,500,000. Earlier Unoy failed for 12,000 but received an extension and has cleared 00,000 of the debt.
The Presidential special left Wasurxcay at 11:00 a m carrying President and Mrs Cleveland Secretary and Mrs Whitney and Colerici and Mrs Lamont Two maids accompanied Mr Cleveland.

A February 31 banquet in Vienna at the Grand Hotel celebrated Washington's birthday with about three hundred Americans in attendance. U. S. Minister Mr. Lawton was among the guests.
A Methodist revivalist in Iron Mountain Michigan is revealed as a detective seeking a murderer. He captures his quarry and departs for Janesville.
Arxctnsatt February 31. Miss Josie Holmes is freed as the indictment against her for connection with the bank affairs was not filed this morning. The report notes the case dismissal and lists the dramatic outcome for Holmes.
Hoboken theater fire destroys the Theater Comique with proprietor Robert Gautzberg surviving his family escaping. His brother in law Otto Lobes, orchestra leader, dies. Lobes’ son Otto and Gautzberg’s wife are fatally injured. several singers also hurt. Firefighters save others as four buildings burn. Gautzberg suspects anarchists blamed for the blaze.
Mr Vernon Itt reports a devastating cyclone that destroyed 300 houses and left about 1000 people homeless. Thirty dead bodies have been recovered with more fatalities among those rescued. Wounded total likely exceeds one hundred as the storm raged through six acres of former settlement.
Carrie Tietz, 26 from Sebewaing, jailed for burglary in Bay City Michigan, tried to escape at four this morning by a rope of quilt strips. The improvised rope broke and she fell thirty feet, striking her head and likely dying. Her sister, also jailed, was prepared to follow if the rope had held.
Wasuinotos February 20 The Senate Committee on Public Lands today weighed a proposed general land laws amendment. It calls for repealing timber culture and pre emption laws and amending the homestead law to limit public land acquisition to actual settlers. It is expected to report a bill similar to the Senate bill from the last Congress on this subject.
Night Watchman at St Peter in the sane asylum discovers J W Stover has murdered his roommate Charles Warner with the iron bedstead post. Both patients had shared a room for two months and were regarded as harmless. The assault occurred around two o clock this morning.
The Secretary of the Treasury received via Adams Express a package with 31,600 in National Bank notes from Cincinnati. A note accompanied the money asking it be placed to the conscience fund and bore the signature One Who Will Be Honest.
New Orleans reports George W. Hill manager of the Diamond Aatch Company has been missing since Thursday. He is $10,000 short in his accounts and authorities warn of possible foul play as the search continues.
The Democratic mayoralty convention nominates Neal Dow for mayor, with Dow also listed as the Prohibition candidate. The event occurs on February 20 in Portraxp.

Nat Wright, a farmer near Cox's Mills, sought surgical help after a melee with a five foot eagle. He chased the bird which swooped on a hen in a barn yard, then attacked him injuring his hand with talons and wings before Wright dispatched the bird with a club.
The Temps reports extreme activity at all French arsenals and says a fighting fleet is being fitted for active service. In a few days naval stores will be much improved from the start of the year.
In executive session the Metropolitan Police Board increased first class liquor license fees from 800 and 500 and 350 to 1000, 600 and 400 dollars respectively. Second class licenses rise from 875 to 1000 dollars.
Jackson Mississippi February 19. Senate yesterday adopted the House bill to pay a $30 yearly pension to officers soldiers and sailors and their servants who served in the Confederate Army.
The twenty fourth anniversary event drew attendees from Richmond Oxford Rushville Shelbyville and Indianapolis with a Newcastle youth ladies in uniform parade. Major General Carnahan and others presented a 250 citizens prize.
