Fire destroyed George D. Hill residence three miles northwest of Bolivar New York. Mrs Hill and two young children died in the blaze. The father was badly burned and not expected to survive. The home was heated by gas from nearby wells and overpressure is blamed for the rapid fire.

A New York Central line train collided with a freight caboose near Steamburg, killing Conductor Geo Elis, Brakeman James Dean, Frank Kimball, and Miss Abbey.
