On August 12 13 reports from New Iberia describe a tense clash in Freetown where 500 to 600 armed Black residents faced surrounding whites. After days of threats and a standoff the group surrendered arms. a violent raid followed during which eight Black men inside and several outside were killed, with injuries to others.
London dispatch reports the Queen has commuted the death sentence of Danny Handesek, aged seventeen, who was to be hanged for the murder of her baby at Sansgate. The girl, deserted by the father, afflicted by starvation, threw the infant into the river and attempted suicide. She will be moved to Breadmoor tomorrow to begin a life sentence.
Crantox Louisiana August 17 Lisa Lene Loeb a sixteen year old weighs ninety four pounds and has amazing psychic feats She reportedly pushed five grown men around a room and suspended a three hundred pound man from a chair while others tore the chair apart in the dawn light in front of spectators.
San Antonio hosts a Veterans reunion under the Texas Confederate Association. About three thousand veterans are in camp at San Pedro Springs Park near the city center. General W. H. Young, US Army, commands the camp.
Observer Lyons reports killing frost across Saint Paul and St. Vincent areas as temperatures dropped to around 30 degrees before sunrise. Frost extended south toward Moorhead and westward to Bisbee, but did not reach these points.
Reports from thirty five representative points in the northeastern region indicate wheat oats and all staple grains are nearly a total failure. The survey highlights severe crop losses across multiple farms and counties, signaling a poor harvest season.
At 9:39 am eastbound Union Pacific train near Danas station was held up by three robbers. Fireman Wailen was shot. brakeman Tillman fought them, suffered injuries, and the robbers fled. Samuel Beblie of Pond Creek Jackson County West Virginia was gored and tossed by a bull while checking a field. A companion armed with a heavy cudgel helped fend off the animal as ten to twelve men aided with tubs and pitchforks. No deaths had been reported at last accounts.

Gallatin Tenn August 20 Sam Fitts once involved in many shootings was shot by John Vance at Bethpess after a quarrel over the recent election. Fitts attacked with a knife and Vance fired wounding him through the right lung. the ball passed through his body. Vance escaped.
Charles Anderson and Charles Holderness fought a knife duel in a dark room on August 21. Each man pretended the other planned to rob him. Both were taken to County Hospital with serious injuries.
In Ricumoxp Virginia on August 2 the equestrian statue model of General Robert E. Lee was unboxed. The Lee Monument Board approved the model and sent telegraphic congratulations to the artist Mercier.
Severe rains flood Wheeling West Virginia causing bridges to wash away and rail lines to halt. The B and O trestles and Elm Grove iron bridge were destroyed while the city’s south side loses lights gas and telephones. Loss pegged near 559000 with many already bankrupt from prior floods.
Ozank Mo Aug 21 Captain Nat N Kinney founder and chief of the Bald Knobbers died in Forsythe after a store quarrel with Wm Miles. Kinney fired five shots. Miles shot first and Kinney fell lifeless with pistol in hand amid the Berry Taylor feud violence.
In Jacksonville Florida on August 21 five more yellow fever cases are reported. Business continues with difficulty while health authorities tighten controls. Doctors face potential punishment for concealing suspicious cases as the board of health enforces orders.
The Committee on Pensions reported a bill to pension Mrs Sheridan at 45570 dollars annually, the largest pension on the list after a President's widow. Other widows receive 22000, while Mrs Tyler, Mrs Polk, Mrs Grant and Mrs Garfield get 10000.
