A garbled collection notes many named people places and events including Moros sst in Utah Paris Paris BC Washington New Jersey and Brazil. It mentions politicians scientists and entertainers with scattered odds and ends like trains miles of retread and a cross inscribed in Albany.
A 2000 dollar robbery in Canton involved a Gypsy woman and two swindlers posing as a book agent and a prospective buyer. They lured Caxton Brothers Farm owner to town to obtain funds for a fake agency and fled after seizing his roll. Shoe dealer O L Clanser lost 314 dollars to a Gypsy woman using a wart removal charm scheme. The trio vanished with several accomplices and their birds.
Thieves robbed the First National Bank of St Johnsville Attica N Y on April 14 by entering through a back window. They used explosives to blast the vault and safe, taking less than 21008 in cash 2 unsigned checks a gold watch and chain, and other jewelry belonging to assistant cashier J Markell. No arrests reported as the bank reopened this morning.
A six year old boy missing three days was found in George town County woods. The corpse showed severe mutilation and partial scavenging by animals. An inquest heard the father beat the child severely the day he disappeared. the father was arrested.
Garviston Trex notes a victim bitten by a mad wolf at the Muerte hateh. The man, Chamberlain, now under Dr Pastelle’s care in Paris, has fled toward Cape Saile Honehe where vaqueros chased him. He reportedly appeared near Asadere Hanehe and attacked a six year old child of Manuel Cantu.
A Meyer family crossing a bayou in two boats led to a double tragedy as the father fell overboard, the mother Mrs Meyer drowned while saving him, and the two boys unintentionally pulled her under. The Lena recovered the father’s body ashore.
Two boilers exploded at the Amistead Lumber Company mill house this morning in Prvanationer Miss. Killing two firefighters, one white named Perkins and a colored man named Joe Hil. A young white man Deming, son of a lawyer, also died. Laborer Allen Lindsey was badly injured. The mill house was wrecked and both boilers blown to pieces.
A dynamite blast at a Richmond Indiana house aimed to murder a family, blowing a frame structure and injuring Mrs. Craig and Mrs. Hewitt while three children slept nearby. A fuse-linked cartridge was set in the cellar. police expect arrests, including Enoch Craig, as investigators piece together the attack.
Gertrudia Palmer a seventeen year old German girl in Birrwainsuam Alabama was escorted by two brothers and Dr J D Thompson to Tuscaloosa State Insane Asylum after becoming a raving maniac from excessive use of blondine dye. Her insanity and violence required confinement to prevent harming family. She had lived near Cullman Alabama.
News reports from Sacraments Kentucky detail a fatal accident where 17 year old Walter West was fatally shot by his four year old cousin Eidie Gwynn after West allowed the girl to pull the gun’s trigger. West died of a chest wound after being struck by a shot through the lung.
Bray April 16 The Emperor's illness has worsened with bronchitis and high fever. Doctors report unchanged fever. Crown Prince William and Empress Augusta rush to the Castle. Bismarck and the Minister of Justice meet him as the Emperor signs an order naming the Crown Prince his representative. Nighttime summons of the Imperial family intensify fears of a fatal turn.
Lieutenant- Commander Bradford and Lieutenant Veeder of the Chicago have spent two weeks outfitting electric lights in the new cruiser. The ship will be commissioned as flagship of the European squadron when its battery is ready. It features 425 incandescent lights throughout to replace oil lamps and reduce fire risk. Wires are insulated with electric tape and thin lead sheathing for water exposure. Side and running lights are fifty and thirty-two candle power, and the pilot house is lit as well.
Indian Territory reports Wonn Gill a notorious horse thief was shot and killed last Friday fifteen miles beyond Woodward. Gill hid stolen horses along the Wasila river bank and depredated in Missouri Arkansas and Kansas. He fled from over twenty pursuers including horse owners and had served two Kansas State prison terms. Gill is said to have stolen five hundred horses in total.
Privapenrira April 15 A southbound New York and Washington Express on the Pennsylvania elevated line at Thirtieth street collided with a heavy passenger locomotive. The crash toppled four cars and injured a score, but no fatalities were reported.
An unknown boy leaning against a telegraph pole on East Broadway was stunned by an electric current from a crossing electric light wire and died shortly after. A loose wire wound around the pole delivered the shock.
William Hopkins, with brother Jove, was condemned for the Rabun County murder of William Thomas over worn store clothes. Hopkins will be hanged on May 11. His brother, already jailed, will not hang. Hopkins pleaded with his father on his way out, asking if he would attend the execution.
About two hundred fifty people including several ladies gathered at Farwell Hall to discuss how to induce observance of the Sabbath. A. Ward and A. L. Rogers of Cleveland County returned from Ashley County with two men named John Jones and Mark McQuestion, arrested and charged with involvement in a recent robbery of a train on the St. Louis Arkansas and Texas railroad near Kingsland. Officers allege they have the right men.
Ottawa reports the fishery treaty bill will have a second reading on Monday with opposition not dividing the House. A third reading is planned for Tuesday and the Senate expects to dispose of the bill within days, making the law by week’s end and implementing the modus vivendi.
A box-car containing one hundred kegs of powder exploded in the Louisville and Nashville railroad yards at Moxreoament Alabama causing extensive damage. Windows shattered up to a half mile away and plaster fell from walls. A nearby negro car-coupler was killed by the blast as sparks from a passing engine ignited the car.
Robert Van Brunt was hanged in Warsaw jail this morning after spending the night in prayer and reading his Bible. Eva Roy, sister of the victim, arrived from Albany and attempted to visit at six but was refused admission.
Judge Van Vaten of Hackensack says a former foreclosure sale of part of the New York Bay Cemetery property passed to buyers who turned part of it into a vegetable garden. Graves were leveled and ground plowed as caskets were raised above the coffins interred below.
An April incident in Coxwar ends with City Marshal John H. Howard shooting and killing Roh Little, a Black preacher. The altercation involved a can of peaches valued at six dollars, leaving witnesses and authorities seeking full explanation.
In Peac Station near White Hall LL a quarrel over a calf owned by Robert McEvers led to him being stabbed five times by cousins William and Howard Garrison. McEvers died instantly from the wounds, the incident reported from St. Louis dated April 15.
In Watertown New York on April 15 Miss Sarah Chellis a 40 year old public school teacher sued farmer John B Chapman aged 73 for breach of promise of marriage. The jury awarded 3900 dollars.
Joan Bogard pleaded guilty to first degree murder for assisting Charles Meyer in the January ratway station robbery and murder of James Weir in Independence. The plea was accepted and Bogard was sentenced to hang in June. Meyer has been convicted but awaits sentence.
Bosvox April 16: Captain Andrews oversees building of the Dark Secret a fourteen foot nine inch canoe with one mast a lateen sail and an ironclad keel. It will sail the Atlantic in June. His 1878 voyage in the Nautilus informs improvements in the new design.
Ex Senator Roscoe Conkling died at his home in New York City. Surrounded by Mrs Conkling Judge Coxe Dr Anderton and Mrs Oakman in attendance. Doctors had hoped for recovery after a March blizzard ordeal but the patient passes peacefully as reporters gathered outside.
Prinaverpara reports the William Cramp shipyard nears completion of a dynamite cruiser for the US Navy named Yorktown. It features four fifteen inch pneumatic guns launching shells with 89 pounds of explosive gelatine, designed to destroy armored hulls, tested by Italian forces at Fort Lafayette.
In Jackson County near Missouri’s Jackson town D A Hoffman’s house burned Saturday. Three of his children died and Hoffman plus three other children were badly burned. Mrs Hoffman had died months earlier and the father has since acted understandably. Neighbors believe Hoffman set the fire to destroy himself and his family.
In April 17 report from Charleston County South Carolina General Edward McCrady sues Dr. T C Robertson of Columbia for ten dollars for libel An open letter accused him of lying and knavery The case may see McCrady donate any judgment to the State and references an anti dueling law from his legislative period.
The San Francisco chamber of commerce adopted a memorial to the Secretary of the Navy urging completion of the Monadnock as harbor defense and another to Congress urging prompt action on a bill to establish a quarantine station at the port with emphasis on Chinese infection.
Snow falls in Alpena and East Tawas on April 17 with accumulations two inches in places. A southern snowstorm expands offshore where thirteen ships are reported in ice five miles out.
F G Perry a new Burlington engineer was assaulted by a crowd at Acrona April 17 and wounded Chita Hester a striker. Perry fired and seriously wounded Hester in the incident at the scene.
