Stephen Dilley Dies at Terre Haute Home
Stephen Dilley former resident died at his Terre Haute home last Friday from paralysis and debility. Born 1849 near St Pleasant Martin County he was 68. He married Frances Beasley in 1883 and had one daughter who died in infancy. He joined the Christian church and the Masons over thirty years ago. Survived by wife two sisters and one brother. Body returned from Terre Haute and services held at the Christian church with burial at Walnut Hill.

Fruit Day at Daviess County Hospital WASHINGTON
Saturday, September 29, is Fruit Day to aid the Daviess County Hospital in Washington. Donations of fruit, jellies, juices and canned goods will be received by the committees in charge. The Red Cross Headquarters at Washington will stay open all day to collect donations. Madison Township residents may drop items at the Journal office in Colon for delivery to the hospital.

County Meeting Promotes Defense Council Work
The State Council of Defense held a county meeting at the Washington court house Tuesday afternoon to boost enthusiasm and understanding. Speakers Hill, Oaburne, and Crittenburg addressed a large crowd, with Crittenburg detailing the organization. Committees were formed and an appropriation for expenses was discussed. Many locals traveled to Washington to attend.

Gorman Waggoner Dies at Salem Home
Gorman Waggoner died at his Salem area home after weeks of stomach cancer. He was about six years old, never married, and is survived by his brother Geo and three sisters. He was a Baptist church member and graveside services were held at Salem cemetery.

Runaway Accident Near Elnora Injures Two Men
Two men, Birdsell and Mallet, were hurt when a tomato wagon on Tomey farm near Elnora ran down a steep sand hill. The spring seat slipper caused the fall as the wagon toppled over the embankment. Birdsell had a broken leg and torn arm while Mallet suffered a broken wrist and leg injuries. Dr Porter arrived and the pair were transported home for treatment and reported resting well with good recovery prospects.

Life of Eighty Three Year Old Joe Boyd Chronicle
Last Friday Joe Boyd, aged eighty three, showed an erect figure and steady step. Born in Ohio, he moved with his family to this state seventy years ago by wagon train, witnessed Indianapolis trains, and later returned to Ohio then walked home before guiding further settlers to this county.
