Teachers from Madison and Van Buren townships will hold a joint organizing institute at the Willow Lick school house this Saturday from nine o'clock in the morning until four in the afternoon. The event will serve as the organizing session though regular work will be done.
A barn fire on the Hasler farm north of Scotland destroyed Henry Ledgerwood’s property including five cows, a colt, two horses, a hundred bushels of wheat, a buggy, hay, harrow, and other implements. The cows were reportedly inside during the blaze and died.
RAGLESVILLE news notes report J A Overton's coal haulers on strike Friday with a meeting planned tomorrow at W slow Lick for Madison and VacBuree townships. Also reported are crowded School No 8 rooms, local visits, a newborn daughter to Harvey and Mrs Riggins, completion of J M Winklepleck coal shaft, a stranger surveying mines, and a culvert accident injuring Alfred Luallen.
Sixty five members of the Freed family gathered at Mr Suannos Freed residence near Pleasant Hill last Tuesday. Mrs Freed, about 78, was born and raised in Ohio and moved to the county in 1893, living on the Sage farm since. The clan totals 100 descendants, with 65 present for the first Whig era reunion and a large dinner.
The fifty sixth birthday anniversary was celebrated Thursday with a large dinner at the home of the first named pals. About 30 friends and relatives attended and enjoyed the feast and the occasion.
The mayor targets fines of 19.05 dollars on gamblers, reporting ten cases disposed of this forenoon and resuming work after dinner to continue daily until all have paid 219.05 dollars. The effort, labeled 219.05-Lintuo Call, aims to recover funds and enforce penalties.

Monday Lowry, a farmer east of town, reports losing a pocket book containing 31 dollars. He had visited S L Ketcham, who is sick. After placing his coat on a fence, he searched the route he traveled, then retraced to Ketcham’s place but found no trace of the missing wallet.
Ceremonies for the corner stone laying of the new U B church included talks by Dr J Hobson and Rev S C Colentz with a prayer by Rev J Breden. A five dollar pledge totaling 868.06 was taken and the stone was placed with Bible, religious periodicals, photos, ministry minutes, and a Chinese coin.
The Elnora Packing Co sent a second car load of tomatoes to the Washington Canning factory due to limited local capacity. A day and night crew struggles to keep up with incoming tomatoes as farmers continue deliveries.
Miss Lizzie Ledgerwood left Thursday for Oklahoma after a visit there. Mr and Mrs W H McCarter Sr attended the World's Fair this week. John L Pate of VacBured visited Monday to tend political fences. The Sunday School Picnic for the new United Brethren church drew a large orderly crowd. Refreshment stands and vendors offered treats, with music from Southern Indiana and Crescent Band. The Odon Stars played a ball game with a picked nine as crowds enjoyed speeches and songs before returning home.
On the road youth, afmy home farm south of Odon, a pair of spectacles in a rusty metal case and a red backed day book were lost. A reward is offered for their return. Srori V. Garten.
