A lengthy 1905 act outlines vast powers for town boards including fire protection, street regulation, taxation, utilities, cemeteries, parks, and public schools. It details appointments, construction duties, bond issuance, and enforcement, with two tickets nominated for town offices in upcoming four year terms.
Nellie Carnahan, daughter of James G Carnahan of Loogootee, is reported dead. The obituary notes her local prominence and connections in the community.
A Farmers' Institute will meet at Odon on December 6 and 7 and at Washington on December 8 and 9 with John Nviswanger as county president and Joseph Allison as secretary. Prof McConnell resigns as Odton Public Schools superintendent to become Assistant Principal at Helena High School. Prof A T Mayfield is promoted to superintendent and Prof Owens of Bloomington will take Mayfield’s former post. Owens is an experienced, well recommended teacher secured by A A Lane and C A Pickett.
At a joint Indiana Corn Growers Association and Corn School committee meeting a corn show was approved for the fourth annual Corn School Stockmen's Convention at Purdue University next January. The aim is to boost corn improvement statewide with samples from across Indiana, free entry for farmers, section premiums, and sweepstakes finals.
In October a quiet wedding united Chester Sommers and Edna Herndon at the home of the officiating Eld C H Buchanan. Sommers, a clerk at U S Baker Clothing House and member of the Southern Indiana Band, rises as a respected young man. Herndon, daughter of H T Herndon, is described as pretty and popular. The couple will reside at the bride’s Main Street home for now.
A plea urges starting a local library in Odon to provide access to quality books. Citizens are asked to consider supporting a modest start, even without Carnegie funds, to create a permanent community asset and brighten long winter evenings.
Albert Malone of Mud Pike reported a runaway incident at Elnora last Friday. His team frightened by an S.I. train bolted down Main Street, crashed near Toelle's poultry house, injuring Mrs Malone who was alone in the rig. The horses had escaped injuries prior to this event.
A candidate has announced intent to run for re election. The action signals continued campaign for the office.
