Last Saturday at 3 00 PM Paul McCarter and Eva Connell were married at Rev Pery Key's home in Plainville. The bride is daughter of Henry Connell and the groom is grandson of J P Taylor. They will live with McCarters grandparents before starting a farm home.
J Parmenter Mitchell former Odon boy writes from Camp Jackson Jacksonville Fla that he is captain in the Quartermasters Corps and an instructor in Field Electricity at Jacksonville He notes Harry Coleman also from Rossville is in the Hospital Corps and likely to join an Ambulance unit He says about 25000 troops are at Rossville and a big brigade is expected for France the day before the letter was written.
The S I Band secured Star Theater for rehearsals last Monday night and held its first practice there. The focal band grows in numbers with new members joining as interest in fall music remains high.
Daviess County to raise at least 342 dollars as its share for Comfort Funds for Indiana National Army units. The plan calls for two dollars per departing man, totaling about 500 dollars per 250 soldiers, to be sent to Camp Taylor for distribution to Indiana troops. W. G. Irwin of Columbus named treasurer. John E. Northway to lead the drive with the Indiana Commercial Secretaries Association. Local campaign to start soon.
A wedding solemnized at the Morrison home in North Centre avenue joined Miss Olaf Morrison and Walter S. Danner of Terre Haute. The ceremony featured Mendelssohn and a breakfast with autumn décor. The couple plans a Terre Haute home with Danner’s Indiana University ties and local guest lists.
Hon. Oscar E. Bland reports that on October 6 1917 Congress amended pension law raising widow pensions for officers and enlisted men who served in the Civil War Spanish American War or Philippine Insurrection to 25 dollars per month. It excludes widows of those not named in the amendment and requires no application for the increase as payments will be made by the Pension Office.
Sheldon Boyd of Epsom the four year old son of Mr and Mrs Mervin Boyd died Sunday morning from diphtheria after being stricken the day before Funeral services were held at the family home and the community sent sympathy to the bereaved family
Newberry, a northeast town, rapidly rebuilds after a recent devastating fire. The burned district is cleared, new buildings rise, and a top quality street lighting system is being installed. Wiring is done and lights turned on using Indiana Power and Water Co. current. District manager Mr. Weaver says Newberry is a coming town.

The day was joyfully remembered by the family.
Bedford basketball team beat Odon 25 to 5 in Lawrence after a tied first half. Whiteside and Seneff subbed in for Correll and Barkley in the second half. The Youth's Companion magazine ad promotes a two for one offer including McCall's Magazine with a home calendar for 1918 priced at 2.25 dollars.
