Marriage of Paul McCarter and Eva Connell

Last Saturday at 3 00 PM Paul McCarter and Eva Connell were married at Rev Pery Key's home in Plainville. The bride is daughter of Henry Connell and the groom is grandson of J P Taylor. They will live with McCarters grandparents before starting a farm home.

Mitchell instructor in Army in Field Electricity

J Parmenter Mitchell former Odon boy writes from Camp Jackson Jacksonville Fla that he is captain in the Quartermasters Corps and an instructor in Field Electricity at Jacksonville He notes Harry Coleman also from Rossville is in the Hospital Corps and likely to join an Ambulance unit He says about 25000 troops are at Rossville and a big brigade is expected for France the day before the letter was written.

The S I Band secured Star Theater for rehearsals last Monday night and held its first practice there. The focal band grows in numbers with new members joining as interest in fall music remains high.

Comfort Fund drive planned for Indiana soldiers in camp

Daviess County to raise at least 342 dollars as its share for Comfort Funds for Indiana National Army units. The plan calls for two dollars per departing man, totaling about 500 dollars per 250 soldiers, to be sent to Camp Taylor for distribution to Indiana troops. W. G. Irwin of Columbus named treasurer. Pension Increase for Widows of Certain War Service

Hon. Oscar E. Bland reports that on October 6 1917 Congress amended pension law raising widow pensions for officers and enlisted men who served in the Civil War Spanish American War or Philippine Insurrection to 25 dollars per month. It excludes widows of those not named in the amendment and requires no application for the increase as payments will be made by the Pension Office.
