Death of Harry Laughlin in Elnora from tuberculosis

Harry Laughlin former Justice of the Peace and Elnora Record reporter died Sunday at age 37 after a long tuberculosis illness at his mother's home in Elnora. He leaves a mother Elizabeth Laughlin two sisters and two brothers. Funeral held Monday at the Methodist Church in Elnora with Rev. S J Shake officiating. Burial in Elnora Cemetery.

Rally Day at Christian Bible School in Odon Draws 303 Attendees

Odon reports a record Rally Day with 303 in Sunday School surpassing the 300 target and $192.80 collected. Moonlight Quartette and Ladies Quartette provided music as attendees received a small American flag for arriving early. After services, a large church basement dinner followed by night services highlighted a strong display of Christ and positive Christianity by local men.

Cullop to Speak at Star Theater Tonight

Hon. Wm. Cullop will address the community at the Star Theater at 7 30 this evening after arriving this afternoon. He will meet local residents and friends around the city during the visit. Reverend Trowbridge and family and several others are noted in related arrivals heading toward Trinity Springs.

Indiana centennial celebration set for October in Washington

Arrangements for Indiana's centennial on Friday October 13 in Washington progress. The program includes a school children pageant in the afternoon and a morning parade with thousands of students and citizens, plus three bands and the Washington Marines in performances and concerts. Historical floats and decorated cars will join the procession, with parade formation likely at the courthouse and Mayor McCarty serving as grand marshal. Madison Township will be represented and relics from pioneer days may be left with J. E. Garten for safekeeping.

All Bays Meeting a Success at Pleasant Hill Church

A large crowd attended the all day meeting of the three points of Odon Circuit held at Pleasant Hill church three miles north of Odon. Rev A W Arford of Jasonville delivered the principal address. Rev M P Herron spoke on country church needs. Mrs D W Hayes discussed the Women’s Missionary Association. Three hundred people attended. Meals were served at noon from two long tables. Music by the Mendelssohn Male Quartet and the Odon orchestra accompanied the sessions.

Scout Medal Award Brings Cheers at Odon Troop Meet

At a Monday night meeting the Odon troop awarded a long awaited medal to Wilbur Hardy after a tough selection. Scout Master E Roberts and presenter Mr Stotts praised boys’ conduct and character while noting a three month contest to decide the next honors and keep individual troop records.

City library receives Britannica set and World History volumes

John Stewart, a former city resident now living in French Lick, donated a valuable 25 volume Encyclopaedia Britannica and a two volume World History to the public library this week. The library board gratefully accepts all donations and will publish a list of highly desired books next week.
