Death of Norval Haig in California Tuberculosis

Norval Haig former resident of this area died last Monday at Needles California from tuberculosis after a failing illness. He traveled to California six weeks ago for relief with his mother accompanying him. he was 22 years old. The body will be shipped here for burial with funeral arrangements pending.

Game wardens pursue hunters after license violations

Two men pleaded guilty to hunting without licenses before Mayor John W. McCarry and were fined five dollars plus costs each. One defendant, Robert Carpa Dean, pleaded not guilty with trial set for Saturday morning. Those pleading guilty named Mike Burkhardt James Melton Oak Chandler and Frank Miller. Costs totaled twenty dollars per man. Bee arrests followed by game wardens Christ and Camidy in Bat Township.

Mrs. Hulda Sargent Dies After Illness in Martin County

Mrs. Hulda Sargent of Martin County died at her home near Blankenship last Sunday after a long illness. She was the mother of eight children, seven of whom survive her. Surviving children include HL, J. M., James, Jake, Joseph, and Mrs. Sumn Collins, among others.

William Henry Myers, a respected Van Buren township resident, died suddenly at his home five miles southeast of the area last Saturday evening at age 71. A Civil War veteran, he is survived by his wife two sons and six daughters. Funeral services were conducted at the U B church in Eaglesville Monday at 2 PM with Rev. Perry Key officiating. Burial followed in the Eaglesville cemetery.

Wreck at Riverval e Injuries and Fire Destruction on B&O

A B&O wreck near Mill Creek bridge west of Riverval e injured three men from Seymour as westbound freight crashed into the caboose of the lead train. The caboose and an empty box car burned, with other cars at risk. Injured: J H Williams engineer ankle sprain and shoulder bruises E W Kennedy brakeman leg bruises G Lauster brakeman leg bruised. Cause under investigation.

Don’t Sell Sick Hogs Result in Damages Award

In Petersburg Indiana a circuit court jury awarded Guy Sanders $900 against John Hauser after Sanders bought thirteen hogs from Hauser that were infected with cholera. The disease spread as Sanders’ herd of about 150 hogs suffered nearly 100 deaths, though Sanders did not know the hogs were infected. Sanders sought $1,000 in damages.

Overton Seeks Injunction Over Neighbor Poultry

Manford Overton of south Spring street sues Sollie and Dicey Atchley in Daviess circuit court alleging poultry damages. He claims chickens and turkeys forage in his wheat and corn, harming crops and tenants Samuel Overton and Robert Feller. He seeks $100 damages and an order barring poultry from his fields. Numerous Daviess County Hunters Receive Licenses

About 300 hunting licenses have been issued by the Daviess county clerk in Washington since the season opened. Licenses cover ages 4 to 74, with Chas Hedrick and Milo Malone of the city at 14 the youngest male hunters. Mrs Laughlin of the city is the only woman to receive a license this season.

Sunday School Raises More Than Goal for Home Mission

Last Sunday the Christian Sunday school aimed to raise $10 for Home Mission and send funds to Cincinnati headquarters. Nine classes were instructed to contribute evenly, but the school collected $16.86 in total, exceeding the request. no class-by-class breakdown is provided.

Tuberculosis Sunday to Be Marked by Indiana Pulpits

Hundreds of sermons on the white plague will be delivered from Indiana pulpits on Tuberculosis Sunday December 7. The Indiana Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis has mailed thousands of outline sermons to ministers statewide.

Oscar Hall and Miss Elsie Anderson, prominent local youths, married last Thursday after securing a license in Shoals. Hall, son of farmer Michael Hall near the city, is described as energetic and progressive. Elsie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jo Anderson near Odon, is noted as an accomplished and well known young woman. The couple will reside on a farm near Odon.

Victim of Croup: Five Year Old Boy Dies in County

Leo Richardson, five year old son of Riley Richardson living about five and a half miles east of the city, died Saturday morning from croup after a brief illness. The funeral was held in the Scotland cemetery with Rev. Carmichael of Scotland officiating.

Masquerade Social Pleases Local Juniors

The Christian church juniors were hosted by Mrs. Lester Cummings for a masquerade party last Friday. About forty five children attended with Vivian Spaergeon winning best mask and Donald Cummings earning the funniest mask prize. Refreshments of ice cream and cake followed as the kids departed late, hoping for more evenings like it.
