Announcements from the Chatter club note the approaching marriage of Miss Bertha Killion of this place to Mr. DeWitt C. Akins, a railroad man of Indianapolis. The wedding is set for Saturday, November 25, with plans to celebrate Thanksgiving with the bride’s grandmother Elmira Hayes.
Elizabeth Slaven longtime Plainville resident dies at 83 after a period of illness. Born Elizabeth Graham in Washington township she lived much of her life in Steele township. She was a Christian church member and blind for five years. Grandson Isimurod Slaven, school principal, attends the service. Funeral Monday at her home with Rev. C H Buchnan officiating. Burial in Plainville cemetery.
Elder C H Buchainnan of this place officiated the funeral for John M Brown of Loogootee aged seventy who died of dropsy. A Christian church member and Odd Fellow, he was laid to rest in the Loogootee cemetery after services at the Loogootee Christian Church.
Democrats celebrated President Wilson's election with a loud jubilation on Main Street. A parade of firecrackers, a mock Fourth of July scene, and a crowd of about a thousand youths aided by tin horns created festive chaos as visiting towns lent a hand.
Group No. 7 churches from Odon Eaglesville Scotland Plainville and Alfordsville hold a three day gathering at the U B church starting Thursday afternoon November 23. Rev. FE Roberts leads with an extensive program and speakers from Dayton and New Albany address topics on Sunday schools junior endeavor and church community relations.
Reports filed with the federal court by William P. Tappes receiver show receipts totaling 408 457.75 and disbursements of 500 746.72 for March 1 to November 3, 1916. The balance remaining and the plan for liquidation involve the Vanella Railway Company and associated ventures in Indianapolis.
Well known couple Frank Malone and Hazel A Pershing married at the bride’s home with Rev. Ernest Roberts officiating. Malone, son of P F Malone, is a farmer north of town. Pershing is daughter of Jacob Pershing. They will reside on the Malone farm southwest of Odin.
A. C. Fulkerson reports eighth graders defining neutral and notes faculty moves in Plainville Union City Hillsboro and Tell Colbert attendances and December 11 Indiana's centennial admission day. Dems in Daviess county plan to contest the recent election with a petition for a recount to be heard before Judge Osdon and a mixed-party recount commission.
Births, illnesses, and visits mark a quiet week. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Ora Beasley east of town. Miss Rena Riggins is sick. Walter Stuckey returned from Mitchell for his wife’s illness. Logan Dant and family visited John Riggins. Gladys Dyal and Ada Evans spent time in Terre Haute. A severe November snowstorm affected town life. Leroy Wadsworth nears completion of a new home. W D Evans and family visited southwest of town. Gus Dant’s family visited Bogard. Miss Cora Spaulding visits her brother James. Ella Riley and Francis Joseph Schoeberger wed at St Mary’s Church Barr Tow nship. Rev J R Cavu naush of Indiana Polis preached at St Joseph’s Church.
Valley View in the latest Journal mentions a writer and election board lapse. Mrs Mary A Boyd attended church at Oden and visited Jane Boyd. Orville Boyd of Oden was in the vicinity. Young people attended a pre social bed at Good Hope. Mrs Richard Freed recovered from sickness. John Shake of Elnora visited. Loney View supported the democratic celebration at Glen Friday night.
Wallace Rosenberry and Miss Clydie Marie Aishe were united in marriage at Eaglesville U B Parsonage on Saturday at 5 30 with Rev P F Fouts officiating. Miss Aishe is the daughter of Harvey and Beth Aishe, farmers near Odon. The couple used the ring ceremony and are described as prominent local farmers.
Peter Ragle of Elnora swore out an affidavit against John D. Clayton and Price M. Yuell charging fraud connected with an Elnora store. Sheriff Guthrie holds the affidavit as officers pursue the two men who reportedly fled toward Terre Haute. Civil suits for possession and damages have also been filed.

Jas E Garten and Miss Birdie Keller wed at the bride’s sister’s home in Indianapolis last week. The bride is Morton Keller’s daughter, a former milliner, and sister of prominent Odell citizen Sroom. The groom, son of the late J H Garten and Farmers Bank president, is an Indiana and Chicago graduate and ex teacher. They will reside on West Main Street Odell.
Juries for the November term of the Daviess circuit court were drawn by jury commissioners M. F. Burke W. C. Camp and E. E. Meade. The term begins Monday morning November 20 before Judge J. W Bogden and runs through the week. Grand and petit jurors named include Samuel P. Eagle Bogard township John York Madison township and Hiram A Sims Van Buren township among others.
Elmer F. Hastings a Washington attorney and son-in-law of the late Harve Garten has been offered the role of first assistant in Ele Stansbury's newly elected Republican state attorney general office. The position carries a fixed salary and Hastings would owe his family to Indianapolis if he accepts.
