Fireman Falls From Cab Killed In Indiana Freight Incident

Martinsville Indiana November 7 A E Pflosger fireman on the local I and W freight died in a unique accident. The engine crew could not see each other as their cab was split in two compartments. After steam ran low the fireman disappeared and was later found drowned in White River eight feet deep after likely falling onto a bridge bolt.

Robbery Clue Found Envelopes with Currency

In Wabash Indiana on Friday a mill worker found 20 large envelopes from express shipments. The seals had been broken and the marks showed they held about 18 900 dollars shipped between Omaha and Chicago. They bear a date of August nineteenth and are linked to Burlington train robbers. Officials suspect thieves entered the mill Thursday night. The envelopes may aid investigators and the company will involve secret service agents.

Ghouls Cantrell and McEndree Idled Graves Probed

Detectives Asch and Manning accompanied the alleged ghouls to North Ebenezer and Anderson cemeteries to refresh memories of graves robbed by their confederates. In Evansville Indiana on Sunday afternoon Charles Dear five and Lloyd Dear three were struck by a switch engine in Howell railroad yards. Both boys sustained severe injuries with one losing both legs and the other an arm and a leg. Their mother witnessed the accident and is distraught.

Mrs Nancy East Remembered Amid Indiana Frontier History

Mrs Nancy Aim East of Cold Springs Indiana died near here on November 10. Born January 8 1807 in Frankfort Kentucky she moved with her parents to Madison Indiana in 1814 then to Ripley County near Versailles in 1815. She married Isaac East in 1826 and left eight daughters including Susan Draper Martha Johnson and Elizabeth Day. She left ten grandchildren 29 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. Surviving siblings and a brother numbered in the extended family with deep ties to local leading families.

South Bend Indiana November 10 John Riffel of Johnstown Pa. a suspected hold up man was shot and perhaps fatally wounded by Earl Nixon aged 19 while returning with his sweetheart Anna Car. Riffel was hit in the lung after he failed to heed a stand back warning. Two more shots were fired at four men in hiding.

Brother Hilary of Notre Dame Indiana died suddenly in the parlor of St. John's hospital while awaiting a physician. An inquest found death caused by a blood clot in an artery. He had been in Springfield canvassing for several days. Remains to be shipped to Notre Dame for burial.

Attempted Robbery Shown In Indianapolis Incident

An attempted robbery in Indianapolis on Sunday night left William Smith severely injured after four youths knocked him down with a rifle butt. The incident occurred as he traveled from Cincinnati on Miescurt and New York streets, and the assailants fled before completing the robbery.
