Tuesday's vote yielded results for DeMotte trustee, Smiley clerk and treasurer, and Funcannon marshal amid debate over the ballot name Frank or James Puncannon. Ballots printed James Puncannon, with outcome awaited and new officers to take office January 1. Also ads note a 5 year old mare for sale near Odeon.
The big jewelry establishment M. H. Jepson of Washington promotes its long history and wide stock of watches clocks diamonds fine jewelry sterling silver and plated ware. Railroad fares from distance are offered to customers spending ten dollars or more.
Eggs retailing at 40 cents a dozen appear likely before week’s end after a 3 cent jump in wholesale prices. Dealers report November receipts are the smallest of the year, limiting supply despite higher rates. Rabbits debut next week on November 10 with prices expected near last year. poultry remains steady with ample supply.
Noble Callahan narrowly escaped serious harm after a runaway buggy overturned in a ditch while returning from Concord church to Hazel Russell’s home. Callahan and Miss Russell escaped injury as bystanders pulled them free. The buggy was damaged and the horse fled to the Osuian farm area. authorities and friends dispute how Callahan returned home.
Ten years ago Madison Township had four supervisors and four road districts with limited pay and days. Now two county overseers supervise improved roads while four districts remain. to reduce workload, the township is split into two districts with elections set for the second Saturday after the first Sunday in December between 1 and 3 p.m. at the Bunkum and Good Hope schoolhouses, per Trustee R. J McCatlan.
Last Saturday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Emanuel Hamerick near Odon Susie Shathryon and Edd C Ferguson were married in a formal ceremony led by Eld C H Buchanan. The bride wore white messaline with beaded fringe and roses. a reception followed and the couple honeymooned at French Lick West Baden and Indianapolis before residing near town.
Roy and Miss Anna Winklepleck hosted a Sunday gathering with a noon dining room meal followed by ice cream and cake. Guests included Miss Anna Laurence Flora Reeve Jennie Anna O'Brien of Washington and Messrs Roy Winterbottom Charley Bennett Washington Roscoe Kinonaman and Russell Sommers from Odon.
County Treasurer George Godwin warns a large number of taxpayers will be delinquent after the settlement deadline for the 1911 taxes. Last week saw around 20 000 dollars collected and Saturday reached 18 000 to 20 000 dollars, but today fewer calls to the treasurer’s office threaten to leave many accounts unpaid and penalties imposed.
