Edward Swanstonan electric lineman from Paxton Ill on a trip home from Pittsburg Pa was riding a cut of cars when a switch engine struck the car. He was knocked off and crushed with head injury and a crushed left shoulder.

Sullivan Ind May 24 The Standard Oil Co has secured options on a large tract of coal land east of the city into Greene county. The company owns extensive coal lands and is arranging to sink mines and operate numerous coke ovens.
Noblesville Indiana May 26 The county board of charities and corrections, after its semi annual meeting Sunday, decided prisoners in the county jail are fed too well and will recommend Sheriff Bray cut both quality and quantity of rations.
In Wooster Ohio on May 23 Charles Oyler chased a fleeing fugitive in a wagon and used his meerschaum pipe to threaten the man who surrendered to avoid danger. Oyler returned with the prisoner to two officers who had let the quarry escape.
Iron ore discovered on Isaac B. Hire's farm near Warsaw Indiana. South Bend capitalists toured the site and leased the mineral rights for twelve thousand dollars after being impressed by the ore quality.

Nort Vernon Indiana May 24 four boys aged 14 to 29 named Blarry Myers Fred Schwake Edward Miller and Harold Craig were drowned when a skiff drifted over a swollen creek dam on Muscatatuck creek above the city dam. Frank Cassan survived though the bodies had not yet been recovered.
The Supreme Court refused to re hear the mortgage deduction case and reaffirmed the law as valid. It affects about 80,000 mortgages and removes county level confusion over deductions. Owners of mortgaged lands may claim a $700 deduction if not more than half of the assessed value.

In Evansville Indiana on May 26 Miss Mary Niebauer was bitten or struck by a large chicken snake in her yard. She used a stick to kill the reptile but it knocked the stick away and she fought it off with a rock then collapsed unconscious remaining in serious condition for hours.
Developments in the Fowler estate in Lafayette Indiana indicate the estate to be divided among the surviving heirs of the late Mrs Eliza H Fowler grandmother of Moses Fowler Chase and mother of Mrs Charles H Duhme of Cincinnati and James M Fowler of Lafayette will not exceed 150000 dollars
