Mitchell marshal shoots man during train confrontation

Marshal Enoch Cheek of Mitchell shot Lincoln Heglin while attempting to arrest him on a B&O train incident. Heglin and three others were beating the train crew. Cheek faces a manslaughter warrant and may be jailed as Mitchell sentiment shifts against him.

Williams Brought to Washington Jail After Fatal Shooting

Robert Williams a laborer in an Indianapolis Southern construction gang near Bloomfield was brought to the Washington jail for safe keeping after he shot and killed Mike Collins the superintendent of the gang on Friday morning. The motive is reported as trivial and authorities feared possible mob violence.

Williams Pownall wedding at Eld C H Buchanan home

On Sunday afternoon two o clock at the residence of Elder C H Buchanan Otis C Williams and Miss Ethel Coy Pownall were married. The bride is the daughter of J B and the late Nannie Pownall.

Second Shock Hits John Tomey Near Epsom

John Tomey, son of Thomas Tomey living near Epsom, was struck by lightning last Friday while sitting before a barn. The boy was stunned and did not fully recover for several hours, having survived an electrical shock previously.

Washington Sunday saloon closing enforced

Washington authorities vow to enforce the Sunday closing ordinance. Last Sunday marked the first full attempt to close saloons from 11 PM Saturday to 5 AM Monday. A wood trade occurred Saturday evening and there are suspicions that some low-tier resorts did not fully comply with the law.

Decoration Day Exercises Invite Odon Groups to Parade

Sunday Schools and secret orders in Odon are urged to join a Decoration Day parade at 9:30 a.m. to Walnut Hill, where graves will be decorated and Rev. J. M. Inman will speak. Martial music will play, and graves at the Odon cemetery will be decorated at 2 p.m. A 2:30 p.m. service at the U B Church will feature Rev. H. A. Turney.
