Lightning and Wire Fences Protect Livestock in Thunderstorms

A noted lightning rod maker argues that bare wire fences fail to ground electricity and kill cattle. County Superintendent Burris reports 9 410 children of school age in Daviess county with detailed by township counts for Washington Veale and other townships. White males and females total 4 917 and 4 405 respectively, with colored pupils 41 and 47. The county totals 9 410. The Main street restaurant owned by Cunningham and Dobbins was sold to Catron Bros of Bloomfield. The new proprietors took charge on Tuesday with Dobbins and Cunningham likely remaining in Odon.

Memorial Day Memorial Services Planned by G A R Post

The local G A R Post outlines Memorial Day observances on Memorial Sunday May 24 at 10:00 AM gathering at the G A R Hall and a Sunday sermon at the Christian church by Rev H A Turney. On May 30 at 8:30 AM soldiers will march to Walnut Hill Cemetery to place graves, then to Good Hope church for an address by Rev W E Spider with choir music. Afternoon events include a 1:30 PM hall gathering, parade on Spring Street led by the S I Band, Holy Day services at Odor Cemetery, and memorial addresses at the church by Rev A W Arford with an Odor chorus. Businessmen asked to close 2 00 to 4 00 PM.
