Auto Rollovers Injure Five Washington Men Returning From Linton Meet

A group of five Washington citizens A D Goosey Eugene Alberti Bruce Barnett Paul Staver and Charles Cunningham were injured when their car turned over in a ditch while racing a motorcycle on the way to a track meet in Linton. Goosey escaped serious injury though bruised while Staver Alberti were hurt but not seriously and two others were admitted to Freeman hospital at Linton.

Car Fire Destroys Metz Roadster Near Ragilesville

Tom Riggins and wife escaping near Willow Lick schoolhouse Sunday evening. a fault in the ras eline caused gasoline to spill and ignite the engine. Mrs Riggins jumped free sustaining minor bruises while the car’s front tires burned away and the frame was damaged before firefighters stopped the blaze.

Farmers in the southern part of the county report heavy Hessian fly damage to wheat. The insect numbers are high, causing unease as fields are plowed up or switched to corn in response. Some farms have already plowed under wheat while others plan changes after recent developments.

Bessie Daugherty was awarded 350 dollars in a breach of promise suit against Benton O. McKee. The case, transferred from Greene County to Bedford, was heard before Judge Swails in the circuit court on Friday.

Fisher Dies in Bicknell Butcher Shop Tragedy

James Fisher, born 1866 in Daviess County, died suddenly in a Bicknell butcher shop last Saturday. A carpenter and contractor, he lived in Bicknell for the past year with his wife Mary Sipes and five of seven children. Funeral services were held Monday at his residence, with Rev. Ragsdale and Rev. Ross officiating. interment followed in Bicknell cemetery with Carpenters Union assistance.

Torricelli Given Life Sentence for Robbery Murder

Frank Torricelli an Italian was found guilty of murder in the commission of a robbery for killing Fred Cromwell a merchant policeman in Linton on Feb 7. The life term was imposed after a late jury verdict with initial ballots showing mixed guilt and no premeditation. Cromwell was shot when he surprised a burglar in a Linton store.

H. B. Ledgerwood proprietor of the Palace Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor installs a new electric piano to replace the old one. The instrument is described as an orchestra in itself with piano mandolin bass snare drums and cymbals.

Bedford attorney chosen to preside over Perkins arson trial

William E. Clark of Bedford was selected to preside over the trial of Alberti M. Perkins on March 27 for arson. Attorneys agreed Monday afternoon after long distance calls and Clark was arranged to lead the proceedings. A change of venue had been granted earlier but a judge was not secured until now.

Found Body Of Infant In Old Catholic Cemetery

County residents were shocked by the discovery of a partially decomposed newborn girl hidden in a small box in the Old Catholic Cemetery last Sunday. Coroner Lett held an inquest and ruled the child had lived about a week before death, noting a diaper, apron, and other clothing clues, and that the box lay buried with bricks on top, several months under the surface.
