Aged Chen Dead in Ohio to Iowa Lineage

Daniel Myers, one of this townships oldest residents, died Tuesday at his son George N. Myers’s home five miles east of town. Born in Ohio in 1825, he moved to this state at age forty and lived near his final residence for over fifty years. He leaves his wife, who died eighteen years ago, a son George, fourteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A member and elder of the Church of God, funeral services were at Mt. Zion yesterday at 10:30 conducted by Rev J. W. Trowbridge. Burial followed at the Mt. Zion cemetery.

Boy Scout Notes

The article reports Troop No. 1 holding a regular meeting on Monday night expanding with two new members. Seven scouts passed tests and earned tenderfoots, with the first ten to qualify receiving certificates and an investiture ceremony by the National Council. Four patrols were formed led by Ernest Danner Ralph McCoy Fred Dearmin and Leland Barkley. Regular meetings continue Mondays at 7:00 pm inviting parents to attend.

Township auxiliary formed at Eaglesville church meeting

The Van Buren township Sunday schools organized an auxiliary to the county organization at the U B church in Eaglesville. T. E. Resler presided as county president and officers were elected for all departments including Elementary Mrs James Evans and Secondary Mrs Seward Smiley.

Lovell Cooper Hit By Ball During Practice

Lovell Cooper sustained a badly bruised nose and face Sunday after being struck by a batted ball during practice before the game with the colored boys. Initial fears of a broken nose subsided as he recovered with soreness to the nose and eyes.

White Sox Win Opening Game Against Steel Arm Taylor's Colored Boys

The White Sox opened their season with an 11 hit attack and a strong defense to defeat the Steel Arm Taylor's Colored Boys from Terre Haute. Williams pitched five innings for the Colored Boys, with Slayton and Taylor lasting longer for the White Sox as Cooper hit a three bagger and with McCoy making a highlight running catch in the eighth. Brown and Sims combined well on the mound for the White Sox while Gantz stole bases and provided footwork in the field. The White Sox plan to play Bloomfield next Sunday.

Auto Sideswiped by Frightened Horse on Spring Street

A horse driven by William Danner of Burns City ran into D W Hayes’s car on Sunday afternoon on Spring street. The running board tore off, and Mrs Hayes was slightly injured. The horse was cut and lacerated. the buggy suffered minor damage. A serious accident was narrowly averted.

Mrs S Caress Dies Sudden at Home in Elnora

Mrs Eliza E Caress, wife of John Caress and mother of eight, died suddenly at 11 15 p m Tuesday at her home in southeast town from heart trouble. Born June 5 184? near West Union she moved to Bura in 1886 and married John Caress April 6 1882. Survived by six children, husband, three brothers, three sisters and several relatives. funeral at M E church conducted by Rev S J Shake. Burial in Fairview cemetery.

Daviess County Sunday School Officers Elected

Daviess County Sunday school association held its annual convention at the United Brethren church in Montgomery. Officers elected include President T. E. Resler, Vice-president Dr. E. H. The group reported a successful year and expects to reach the Banner standard at the June state convention with township and school representation planned.

Madison town ship carrier's wife dies by acid suicide

Mires Mischie York 25 wife of Elmer York, a Madison ship carrier, drank carbolic acid Friday afternoon four miles north of Newberry. A ten page letter found on a Bible shows premeditation written ten days before death praising her husband and friends. She kissed her two children before the act. coroner noted no prior melancholia. Old Church 10 Sell Sealed Bids to Dispose Building

A committee chaired by A. M. Keck invites sealed bids for the old church building to be sold by May 13 at 5 00 p m. Bids must include 25 cash or certified check. right to reject any bid reserved. Building to be moved from the west end lot and used until the new church is ready.

Graduation exam results and high marks listed by township

Two hundred six pupils earned passing grades in the April graduation exams. The article enumerates names by township with top scorers and averages. A follow up exam is set for May 20 at the county superintendent’s office for Washington township pupils lacking April scores, and the county commencement is planned for June 10.
