Cyrus E. Daviess of Greene County won the Democratic nomination in the second district on the first ballot at Washington Tuesday afternoon. The crowd was highly enthusiastic and Sullivan County delegates caused tension as they threatened to block a unit vote. Final tally: Daviess 5527, Welman 15, Purcell 20, Mathews 1956 7. The party adopted majority rule and declared Daviess the nominee.
