Daviess County Reunion in Indianapolis Draws Crowd

The Daviess County annual reunion in Indianapolis at Brookside park drew about 250 attendees. Ex-mayor D W Bynum of Washington, now in Indianapolis, spoke on the early history of Daviess County and Marin and Greene counties.

The lodge held its annual election Monday night electing Huette Poindexter as Chancelor Commander Hubert A. Taylor as Vice Chancellor Commander Fred Kinnaman as Prelate Albert Burrell as Inside Guard and Oscar Bennett as Outer Side Guard.

Indiana Sunday School Convention Held at Muncie

Daviess County delegates returned home Friday after attending the fifty second annual Sunday School State Convention in Muncie Delaware County Indiana. About 5000 delegates attended the largest convention the Association has ever held with unusually large departmental and general sessions. The motto was Efficiency Much good was accomplished and the music was inspiring. The convention noted a large number of young attendees and one third were first time participants. Terre Haute named as the 1917 convention city.

First Open Air Band Concert Draws Good Crowd

The local band gave the season’s first open air concert drawing a hearty crowd Wednesday night. The program opened around 7 30 with marches waltzes and a serenade. Upcoming concerts will follow the same format with possible special numbers. Residents of surrounding areas are invited to attend in Odon each Wednesday evening.

Kindling at the Palace theater sparks social drama

The review praises the Cecil B. De Mille production Kindling a theme drama about a pregnant tenement woman who steals from a rich landlady and finds her husband worthy of her love. The program includes an orchestra and Caress preparedness song with china plates giveaways between acts. No price increase all seats 10 cents.

Handel Choir to Present Madame Butterfly at Chautauqua

The famous choir will perform portions of Madame Butterfly in costume on the fifth Chautauqua night. Mme Mabelle Wagner Shank leads the Handel Choir with coloratura soprano Miss Beatrice Stephany, shown in the photograph.

Local Baseball Game Ends In Injury and Loss

A player was knocked unconscious by a pitched bat and taken to the home of Belden Correll. He later returned home and recovered, with doctors hopeful for full recovery after a skull fracture was initially feared. Williams pitched seven innings for Odon, facing 15 batters, while Bloomington won 7 to 4 with Bloomington's three runs scoring in the first and eighth innings. Umpire Taylor drew criticism for strike calls. A separate note urges better conduct at the city park Sunday card games to reduce objectionable language and improve the park experience.

Chautauqua Opens In Odon With Meister Singers

Preparations rushed for Odon Chautauqua starting July 23 with posters banners and lit erature spreading through town. The big tent goes up on West Main St near Ed Wilson Jo with a schedule featuring Meister Singers Male Quartet for opening and a organ chimes set valued in the thousands.

Scout Troop Hikes Back After Four Patrols Formed

A church youth group describes a Scout outing led by Assistant Scout Master Trowbridge with four patrol divisions.16 boys and an assistant slept at the Church of Christ after a rain altered plans. They hiked back to Odor the next morning, finishing the last two miles in 16 and 19 minutes, and praised the self governing nature of the boys.

Troops Likely to Travel Through Washington This Week

Thousands of militiamen probably will pass through Washington on their way to the Mexican border. Eastern troops are moving and many commands are expected to be transported over the B and G railroad.

Washington gears up for a big Fourth of July with contests a large band concert in the afternoon and evening and a baseball game between Bicknell and the Washington Grays. A fireworks display will close the day as the county seat anticipates a busy day next Tuesday.
