Local social notices and sports update from Vincennes area

Mrs. Lester Cummings was at Vincennes yesterday. Miss Dorothy Wedding of Wheatland visits Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hayes. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bunch and sons go to Indianapolis for a few days with relatives. John Sims S Bowman and Walter Haig mac travel to Indianapolis on a business trip. Dre and Mrs. S. E Bowman and son Thomas visit Blooming-ton relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Anderson and children of Washington DC vacationing with Dre and Mrs. J. W. Anderson. Several residents and visitors listed with local relatives, travels to Indianapolis, Bloomington, and nearby towns. A Sullivan event featured a temperance march, with Geneviess Ward noted as recently settled in Dallas. Local baseball: White Sox defeated the Bicknell Bros. The crowd saw Cooper and Simpson pitch for the locals. Garten toed the mound for the city. Sunday next hosts Washington Grass. Sunday School gathering at Mrs. M. Winklpleck’s West Face Street home included a lucchesa lawn picnic and games with Miss Vision Spurgeon, Irene Williams, Dorothy Dearmin, Britta Ketchem, Edna Williams, Florence York, Blanche Pickett, and Mrs. Dora York and Edith Border.

Eighth Chautauqua Highly Successful Close

The eighth capnal Community Chautauqua for this city closed its most successful assembly last Sun day evening with Greens Band as final program. The event ran smoothly, costs paid, and funds ready for settlement before next season. The Davies troupe, Greens Band, and Uncle Sam performances drew strong crowds and strong praise, with Miss Grisiger and the Junior clubs highlighted in community notes.

Farewell Social Held for J H Sosiui in Ottawa Area

A farewell social was hosted at the Home of Duster Williams for J H Sosiui of Puestiny as he leaves for his home in Kansas. Attendees included Mr and Mrs J Ho Senet and Miss Rene ye A iBanes of Ottawa, Mr and Mrs Huette Poindexter and family, Mrs Sallie WATCH, Mrs Patten Poindexter and daughter, Dymple, and Miss Pathine Williams. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served.

Quiet Fourth Expected. City to Observe Independence Day

No public Fourth of July celebration is planned in the city next Wednesday. Numerous street events and band concerts are expected in nearby towns, with businesses and shops closed or subdued.

Injured Diver at Newberry Beach Severs Head Wound

Dwight Baker of the Quan Clothing Co was severely injured Sunday at Newberry Beach when diving and striking a tree trunk. He received medical treatment in Newberry, the head wound was closed, and he is able to work again with a likely quick recovery.

Kohilman Ketchem nuptials concealed since June ceremony

The marriage of Harry Kohilman and Freda Ketchem, noted residents, was quietly announced. The groom, a former city resident, works for a major railway. the bride, daughter of James Ketchem, is a stenographer at the Ford Motor Co. agency in Elnora.

Large crowd attends closing sermon for Rev. R T Gwin

A large crowd gathered at the Cheautauque tent Sunday morning for the closing sermon of Rev. R T Gwin whose pastorate ends as he leaves Sunday afternoon for Eaton Indiana. The union service included participation from all city churches.

Horses Entered for July Fourth Races at Allison-Barber Track

City horse owners gathered at the Allison-Barber track south of Washington last Saturday to file entries for the upcoming July Fourth races. Several Odon horses are entered, and a large local attendance is expected for the holiday event.

Birthday Surprise For Duster Williams

A group of friends and relatives gathered at her home to celebrate her 44th birthday anniversary. The noon bid dinner was the day’s feature with fifteen guests, and Mrs Williams received many useful birthday presents. All expressed wishes for many more happy birthdays.

Miss Eva Mount Weds William B Ayers in Indianapolis

Eva Mildred Mount and William B. Ayers were secretly married in Indianapolis last Monday at 10 30. The ceremony took place at their new North New Jersey Street apartments with Rev A A Turney officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs C T Mount of Odon and will reside with her husband after July 1.

Beehunter Man Arraigned Over White Mule Whisky Find

Roscoe Leech of Beehunter faced justice for intoxication after claiming he traveled to Odon to buy liquor. He identified a car marked by a special feature and purchased a gallon of white mule whisky for 10 dollars before arrest.

Bowman and family visited West Baden Tuesday. L H Hunter of Jasonville and Miss Kathleen Carr of Vincennes visited the city and family. Visitors include Mrs Della McWilliams of Indianapolis and Miss Candace Ledgerwood of Bloomington. Several couples attended a wedding in Indianapolis and other relatives traveled to Augusta Kansas for a visit.

Tent Meeting Opens Sunday in Daviess County

The second annual tent revival of United Brethren churches in Daviess County begins next Sunday in this city. The Summers lot at Elnora and Elm streets hosts the bid tent with Dr Kendall of Dayton Ohio leading sessions and a large chorus supporting the event.

Farm Residence Destroyed by Fire Near City

The home of Martin Smith, five miles east on the old Henry Walls farm, was ruined by a Sunday afternoon fire. Likely started from a defective flue, the five room house burned quickly. few household goods were saved. Loss partly covered by insurance. Smith recently moved from Bicknell.
