The business men of Odon and the townspeople pledge their aid to farmers for harvests and threshing. About 221 days of labor have been promised as a volunteer service to save crops, even though many helpers will be less efficient.
Raglesville Decoration day events included Rev Settle of Washington delivering the address and children under Miss Elsie Wadsworth performing. A procession to the cemetery decorated the graves of fallen soldiers. Red Cross sewing parties gathered at H E Sims home. Local residents Mary Alice Cooper Odon Pansy Dyal and others visited. Unclear details about illness of Peter Wadsworth and others.
Daviess county is called to send twenty three more white men for military service. The quota will be drawn from Class I with priority for farmers if possible. Training begins in a five day period from June 24 at Camp Sherman Ohio. Local board received detailed instructions Wednesday.
An advertisement in The Saturday Evening Post displayed at Rexall Drug Store invites 21 to 30 year olds to join the U S Shipping Board trained Merchant Marine. It states 50 000 jobs at sea with exemption from military duty and notes Rexall Stores nationwide as enrollment stations. G H Gilpatrick and Rexall druggists sponsor the ad as a Liberty contribution.
Miss Francis Arford of Terre Haute spent the week with her mother Mrs. Sue Arford. Miss Florence Skomp of Indianapolis and Miss Ada Bair with Amogene Bair from Terre Haute visited relatives here. W. M. Ledgerwood of Denver spent a few days in the area on a real estate and oil prospects tour, lodging in St Louis while visiting Daviess County friends.
The largest wheat crop ever raised in Daviess county appears likely with reports from across the county noting few poor fields. Oats prospects are good, corn planting mostly finished, and some farms still completing planting due to recent wet conditions.
Russell McCallian son of R. J. McCallian of this city enlisted in the Marines and was sent to Paris School South Carolina last Saturday. He previously was in Akron Ohio and enlisted from that location.
W. H. Briner of this city received word that his son Floyd Briner serving in France was wounded in the arm. No additional details were available. Floyd stated he was in a hospital and well cared for.
EPSOM residents share visits and travels with relatives and friends. The community note lists multiple households hosting, visiting, and moving, including purchases of a Ritter Store by J T Pruett and Clarence McCall and a new King phonograph sale.
Miss Dora York of Odon and several others visited here last week. Local residents report a large tomato crop and several townsfolk suffering from mumps. Decoration Day brought the burial of John Webster, a 65 year old farmer with a wife who died a year earlier.
A birthday dinner was hosted at Mr and Mrs William Chestnut home on Sunday June 2 in honor of Mrs Chestnut turning 45. Friends and relatives contributed meals and gifts though some faraway relatives sent presents. A noon dinner pleased guests and many well wishes followed.
Mrs Nora Wymer and Miss Ver nad Critchlow of Jasopville have returned to their home after a visit with Geo Critchlow and family.
