A Mountain Lake electric railway crash near Gloversville New York on July 4th left fifteen dead and many injured as two crowded cars collided head on. City recorder Frank C Wood of Gloversville suffered a broken back and was in critical condition.
New York reports 6 165 commercial failures in the first half of 1902 with liabilities totaling 60 274 856 dollars. This marks a rise of 91 570 169 from last year and 18 311 823 above the unusually high prior record, with comparisons to British Columbia and Canada showing lower defaults and totals.

Fragmentary notice from Blackshear Georgia reports on July 5 an event involving Bud Dixon a farmer living four miles from town. The text is incomplete but indicates a piercing incident tied to the name Dixon and location.
Harry Tracy the Oregon convict again eludes capture after forcing a farmhand to row him across the sound. He bound and gagged a ranch family, commandeered supplies, and vanished after a long start with Sheriff Cudihee and a posse in pursuit aboard the Sea Lion. Tracy has killed three officers since his Seattle appearance.
Three Detroit youths Tony Henkel Oscar Rosenberg and Conrad Brede drowned when a sail boat capsized in the middle channel at the St. Clair flats Sunday. The accident occurred about 200 feet from Savage's hotel where Henkel and Rosenberg were staying. Spectators saw the tragedy but the boys sank before aid could reach them.

A Great Northern conductor Charles J McCormick and his wife were found dead in a bathroom on the same floor after a gathering. The deaths occurred while their son and friends sang and danced in the parlor, with the bodies discovered hours later by their son who went to call them.
Oyster Bay July 7 mourning fills the Roosevelt children after their trick dog dies during breakfast. The dog named Archie was a gift from Col Closon of Chicago, whose bitch Bozzie previously wowed at the White House. A severe storm drenches Western New York with rain and wind, flooding the Genesee valley. Cities like Hornellsville Portage and Pike report rivers a mile wide, washed-out bridges, ruined roadbeds, and extensive property losses. Livestock losses mount as houses and barns are swept away.
Benton Harbor Mich July 7 two men drowned here Sunday raising total deaths by drowning in the last 24 hours to five. Robert Wilson of Detroit drowned in the St Joseph river while attempting to swim. Ward Kiser 17 of South Bend Ind drowned in Lake Michigan after suffering heart failure during bathing.
A cloudburst at Ellisport east of Hope washes away 12 to 15 houses and destroys two miles of Northern Pacific track. No lives lost. Manila reports Captain John H. Shelllenberger of the 10th Infantry and Second Lieutenant Thomas Ryan of the Philippine Scouts died by their own actions in Mindanao. Shel lenberger’s death occurred July 4 at Higen after despondency. Ryan shot himself in the interior of Mindanao in June.

Muncie Indiana July 5 Mattie Young a colored woman was arrested charged with stabbing Mrs Samuel Epps in the face with a fork. Epps ill and unable to defend herself. The accused reportedly enraged when asked to do house work. Young confessed to stabbing others and said it was her favorite retaliation method.
The body of 16 year old Frank Ganger was found in a canal near Goshen Indiana on Sunday. Parents allege murder and police with the coroner investigate with arrests expected if reports hold.
A Mishawaka Homing club team set a new American record for 500 mile flights, six carrier pigeons flying from Holly Springs Mississippi to Mishawaka Indiana in 11 hours. The distance was 508 miles and the record breaks the world mark by a few minutes per local statistics.
Lafayette Indiana July 5 J R Holden 82 year old former county sheriff reports a remarkable well on his premises. The well extends 110 feet and yields several kinds of water with a fresh air top and sulfur rich bottom. Drilled through multiple rock layers revealing diverse water varieties.
Otto Helms a wire drawer in Anderson Indiana July 5 was badly hurt when wire tangled in blocks and wrapped around him. He was pulled into revolving blocks and held as the wire broke. He sustained cuts bruises and internal injuries.
In Evansville Indiana on Thursday morning Charles Rausch a 69 year old retired German merchant was found dead in bed from apoplexy. He had earlier said he wished to go that way during the hot spell Wednesday night.
A major fire hit the Kellar chair factory in Marion on July 7 and caused about $25,000 in losses. The blaze started in the dry kiln and spread to the east wing, destroying machinery and stock across three floors.

One of the largest gas wells in the Indiana gas belt is on the Clifton farm six miles east of Decatur. The well, shot Thursday morning, now shows 800 pounds pressure after a week at 400 pounds. The gas eruption was so loud it woke residents in Wren, Ohio, five miles away.
