The county final drive for the Red Cross fund completed Monday with all township reports in and tabulated. Despite a late start workers succeeded and the list of donors includes Martha J. Myers who gave 100 dollars and many local businesses and residents contributing amounts ranging from 5 to 50 dollars. Continued on page 6.

Independence Day passed amid quiet in the city with offices closed 10 to 4 and few fireworks reported. The Southern Indiana Band played at the city park with Edith Lane and Will Bair solos, drawing a large crowd who parked their cars to listen and enjoy ice cream.

Commissioned Lieutenant Fred L. Todd Joins Indiana National Guard
Fred L. Todd, a former city resident and brother of Eschel Todd, has been commissioned as Second Lieutenant of Cavalry Troop D in the Indiana National Guard. He will receive a $140 monthly salary. Todd, with three years in the army and prior Army Reserve service, had been the YMCA physical director in New Albany before his commission.

BOYS USE CARBIDE FOR Fourth of July Noise

Ford Overturns Near City. No Major Damage
A Ford belonging to W. T. Dearmin overturned on the road west of the city Tuesday. Dearmin, who was driving, lost control and the car ran into a ditch and turned over. Two occupants sustained only slight bruises and the vehicle escaped serious damage.

Thimble Club Hosts Farewell Visit to Danners

Typhoid claims life of local resident David J. Rogers
David J. Rogers a longtime community figure died at his home southwest of the city last Monday morning from typhoid fever. Born near Jasorville in 1877 he was 40. He married Anna M. Gilliot on November 1 1901 and left behind three children Emma Joseph and Jessie and his wife. He joined the First Baptist church at Linton in December 1895 and remained a member. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Wednesday at 2 30 Rev Chas Coleman officiated burial followed at Walnut Hill.
