Odon and Daviess county poultrymen won multiple premiums at the Lawrence County Poultry Association annual exhibit in Bedford. Winners include Alvert E. Crocke of Odon with Barred Plymouth Rocks. Oliver Stout of Odon and W. H. Swinda of Elnora with White Wyandottes. St. Rhode Island Reds prize for Swinda. James A. Wilson of Washington top awards in Black Langshangs and Buff Plymouth Rocks. Madison township matron Susannah Freed dies at 89

Susannah Malone Freed of Madison township dies at her son Richard freed home four miles northwest of city. Cause organic heart disease and dropsy. Aged 89, she married William Freed in 1529 and had ten children, four survive Richard Catherine Jacob of Odon and Mrs. Mary Ketchem of Elnora. Husband preceded her in death. Charter member of M E church of Good Hope. Funeral at Good Hope with Rev Lester. Burial Walnut Hill.

Bowman Returns From Hunt In Arkansas Woods

Ex Sheriff Willard Bowman is back from a three week hunting trip in Arkansas. He remained away with G W Goldeberry of Martin county and four dogs while camping ten miles east of Hunter and forty miles west of Mexophlis Tennessee. They hunted deer and endured nightly timber wolf and owl chorus as Bowman lost a favorite hound. Bowman is known as a leading hunter in the county and plans more trips to the southwest each year.

Odon Beats Raglesville In One Sided City Game

Odon High School basketball team defeated Raglesville 38 to 10 at the Opera House last Friday. Principal A. Carl Wright played for Eaglesville and was struck in the nose causing visible bleeding. Herm Sears of the Independent team officiated the game.

Smiley Smiley Satterfield W S Smiley trustee of Van Buren township and Mrs Dove Satterfield high school teacher Plainville wed Thursday at Methodist church Loogootee. The couple announced with surprise among friends. They will reside on the Smiley farm near Raglesville.

Bridge Work Washed Out Delays Bloomfield Span

A four foot rise in the White river washed out false work and carried away a new bridge span two miles from Bloomfield. Built by Vincennes Bridge Company the project cost about 75000 and was to be completed October 1. Bloomfield will lack bridge service until next summer.

Former Od on Boy Nominated for Inaugural Trip

Wallace Pensinger, a former Odion boy and son of William Pensinger, is pictured in the Indianapolis Star as a nominee for the inaugural trip. Five members of Central Avenue M. E. Church in Indianapolis were named by the church for the excursion, with the group sending hundreds of letters in support. Pensinger, with broad local ties, is nephew of W. J. Danner.

Mail carrier injured in sidewalk fall

Leonard Ward the mail carrier, age about seventy, was painfully injured Monday after a fall on the sidewalk while transporting mail between the depot and the post office. He is reported to be afflicted with heart trouble.

James Chambers, a boy from ElNora, is missing prompting a local police search. Authorities have issued alerts and urge residents to report any sightings or information leading to his whereabouts.

Mrs Anna Kidwell Dies At Home In Martin County

Mrs Anna Kidwell wife of Basil Kidwell died at her home east of St Joseph's church in Martin County at 9 o'clock Sunday night after a period of illness from dropsy and heart disease. Born August 28 1870 near Angleseville she was the daughter of Nicholas and Dant. She married Basil Kidwell in October 1889 and is survived by her husband seven children Bernard Tillie Sarah Marie Hazel Elizabeth Rose Mary all at home and her father. The funeral was held this morning.

Mrs John Nugent Dies in Elnora at 60

Mrs John Nugent of Elnora died at her home Saturday morning from pneumonia at age sixty. She was a well known citizen, twice married to Palmer and then John Nugent, with children Wilson Palmer of Terre Haute, Mrs Joseph Smiley of Elnora, Thomas Nugent, Mrs C W Wade, Milton Nugent, Louis Nugent, and Miss Cora Nugent. She was a member of the Christian church in Elnora.
