Poultry Show Opens with Busy Entries and Fine Coops

A crowded poultry show drew 370 entries as preparators rushed to accept late registrations. Beavers’ new hall housed the exhibit with round-wall coops and central aisles, while lighting and double decking tested the space. Judge J. Cook labeled a bantam specialty, with secretary Hackler managing duties amid a flurry of premiums and age group awards for Leghorns, Langshans, Wyandottes, and turkeys.

Odon Alumni Association Formed at High School Meeting

A Friday night meeting at the High School Auditorium organized the Odon Alumni Association with Walter Danner elected president and Miss Madge Hueston as vice president. Bob members appointed committees for programs refreshments hall decor and more. The program featured solos readings and addresses followed by a two course luncheon including Waldorf salad potato chips sandwiches pickles olives ice cream wafers and coffee.

Fray on Spring Street Ends in Bruising Bout and Bet Loss

In a Monday melee on Spring Street two men Ketchem and Cunningham clashed over a bird dog dispute. Ketchem won a two round street fight with bruises to Ketchem and Cunningham, bets off, while witnesses split on the outcome. Dinner speeches followed by alumnae from class of 88. Next alumni meeting slated for Friday night December 27, 1912.

Odon’s landmark general store Barkley & Ergren sold this week to N. F. Barkley who takes control. The firm’s dissolution is underway with Barkley planning to boost stock. Mr Overton shifts focus to the light plant and the brick and tile factory.

Runaway Accident Injures Mud Pike Man in Elnora

Last Friday Willard Weaver of Mud Pike was in a runaway in Elnora after his horse bolted near Main Street when frightened by a train. He was thrown from the bogey and struck a telephone pole, suffering severe facial and upper body injuries. He was treated by Dr Young of Elnora and moved to his nearby home where his condition is improving slowly.

Truancy Law Cost 50 000 In Indianapolis Report

The forthcoming board of state charities report shows 22 919 truant children were compelled to attend school by truant officers in 191-1911. The expense per capita was 2.18 dollars. Of these, 999 were truants from private schools and the rest from public schools. Assistance assisted 6 442 children at 2.65 dollars per capita. Three hundred eighty three cases were brought to the courts.
