Influenza Ravages Raglesville Community In 1908 Epidemic

The Raglesville area endures a severe influenza outbreak with over 100 cases and four deaths in days. Obituaries detail Mrs. C. M. Smiley aged 48, Mrs. C. M. Riggins aged 47, Mrs. Edmon Stuffle aged 31, and Roy Dant aged 22, with funerals held or planned and families mourning in the tight knit community.

Henry Strange Dies A Civil War Veteran Local Resident

Henry Strange longtime resident of east Odon died February 21 at home from general debility. Born January 29, 1844 in Martin County, he was 75. Survived by wife Mary Ann Dickens and five children Phillip, Henry Jr, Absolom and Mrs Hat tie Banghart. A Civil War veteran, he served in Co. B 80th Ind. Inf. Burial at Walnut Hill.

Laughlin measure AC accepted by house

The house approved the Laughlin measure to repeal the public service commission law by voice vote after debate. Rep Kimmel led the committee with others opposing. the general appropriation bill saw the PSC salaries cut from 109000 to 75000, with Laughlin and Smith denouncing the commission and its name.

Meat thefts hit east Odon homes with hog meat stolen

Thieves broke into an out building in east Odon on a Sunday night and carried away about 50 dollars worth of meat from Ter man Horrall after he had butchered hogs. The meat was locked inside an out building, suggesting the intruder had a key. Earlier, a large quantity of meat was stolen from Herman Malone nearby.
