Origin of the Mennonites
The Mennonites arose from four sects of Dutch Flemish and German Baptists. They take their name from Menno Simons, a Catholic priest who joined the Anabaptists around 1537. Simons was born in 1496 and died in 1561. His True Christian Belief appeared three years before his death. After the leading spirit’s death the sect split and altered creed.
