Jasonville Plans Water Works System Installation

The Jasonville town board ordered the city engineer to draft plans for a water works system. With drought stressing well water, water would be pumped from Muirs Lake, four miles east, to supply the town. Plans due by February and construction to begin early spring if approved.

Bill to elect county superintendents by popular vote

Rep J G Harris of Bloomington will introduce a bill to elect county superintendents of schools by popular vote rather than by township trustees. He is strongly in favor and will pursue all legitimate means to enactment. Teachers have long favored such a law and welcome the move.

The Loogootee Tribune reports a new hotel rising in Trinity Springs by George Ballard. The three story, north facing building will host 50 to 55 rooms with baths and ensuite options, steam heat, electric light, and a laundry. It aims to open July 1 as a modern, first class Indiana hotel catering to sulphur spring visitors and driving county development.

Brakeman James Clark Fatally Injured on Southern Indiana Line

James Clark brakeman on the Southern Indiana Railway was found dead on the tracks south of here Tuesday morning, believed to have fallen from train No 23 while crossing the cars. Former Eloora resident now of Terre Haute leaves a wife and two children. His body sent to Terre Haute. Also noted is the Washington murder case against Ham Dillon postponed to February 2 next term due to juror illness.

Elnora Couple Wed in Washington Ceremony

Joseph Killion and Catherine Conway, a well known Elnora couple, married in Washington on Friday afternoon. The ceremony was performed at the couple’s residence by Rev. W. W. Moore pastor of the First U B Church.

Roll Call Meeting Of Odon K P Lodge Reported

The local Knights of Pythias lodge held its annual roll call at the hall Monday night with a good crowd of members and guests. Refreshments followed. The lodge is a strong organization in Odon organized about ninety years ago with 161 members and four deaths have occurred among members since its founding. Ex Vice Chancellor Cromwell of Clay City, who organized the local lodge, attended the meeting.

Bonham Resigns as Daviess County Coroner

The resignation of Clifford O Bonham coroner of Daviess county has been filed and accepted by the county commission. Bonham, now in Terre Haute, is not a county resident and cannot hold the office. The board will appoint a successor at the January term likely to Dr. A H Holder, the acting coroner. Bonham’s term would have expired January 1910.

Deputy Sheriff Guthrie Resigns and Smoot Assumes Duty

Deputy Sheriff C D Guthrie has resigned his post to Sheriff Colbert. Elijah B Smoot, deputy under Milton Biuzgerald, assumed duties Monday. Guthrie left to ease the demanding work and may relocate to Odon. The state tax board plans a January meeting with county assessors to discuss uniform valuation methods for property and corporate values. John Lima of Daviess County will attend.
