Daviess County men sue over gravel freight rates
A petition filed with the Railroad Commission at Indianapolis requests a reduction in gravel freight rates on two short hauls over the Southern Indiana. It is brought by John D. Moore Walter C. Garten Jonas M. Wicklepleck and Harry H. Crooke from a gravel pit on White River near Elliston Greene County. They allege Southern Indiana charges 66 cents per ton for gravel delivered to Indianapolis and Evansville at Elnora Odeon and Union Station while Evansville and Indianapolis charges 25 cents for the end of the joint haul from the pit to Elnora 14 miles.
