The Indiana conference of the United Brethren Churches announced minister assignments at Lipton. Rev N Fouts will lead the local church. Rev J W McMurtry of Pleasant Hill and Rev H D Jane of Odon were ordained by Bishop Fout. Jane had been accepted at Dale Indiana from Baptist credentials and was reordained. McMurtry returns to last year charges. Jane seeks Evangelistic missions headquartered in Chicago for now.

Barn Destroyed in Fire at Ledgerwood Farm

A large barn at the M. B. Ledger wood farm four miles east of here burned last Tuesday night. Fire was discovered about 10 and uncontrollable. Hay and feed destroyed. Farm sale had occurred that day, likely removing many implements and harness. Origin unknown. loss partly insured.

Ninety ninth Union Baptist session opens in Portersville area

The ninety ninth annual session of the Union Baptist association began at 1 o clock Tuesday morning at the Weales Crees church on the Portersville reach. The meeting ended Wednesday afternoon. The association covers churches in Pike, Daviess, Knox and Greece counties with delegates present from most congregations. Forrest Tarvin, long located at Hinckley, has returned home last week.

Thieves Loot Osborn Residence as Investigators Nab Suspect

Thieves invaded Osborn residence west of the city last Sunday night while the couple was away and carried off about sixty chickens two guns silverware linens and more. Thirty one chickens went to a Bicknell dealer and twenty five to another. A search warrant led to Raymond Verrott’s home where part of the silverware and belongings were recovered. Verrott was arrested at his mine workplace shortly after noon Tuesday by Bicknell officers.

Odon Dairymen Buy Fine Cattle from Jersey Dispersal

Hugh Neenemer Alonzo Overton and R E Crane bought ten head of registered Jersey cattle from Shady Brook Farm Greencastle at a dispersal sale. Overton took five heifers Crane two cows and one heifer Neerenwer two heifers. All stock from Stockwell strain praised for bloodlines and quality as Odeon dairy locality grows.

Odon Schools Names Teachers For New Year

The board announces the list of teachers for the Odon Schools for this year. School begins September 10. Superintendent Herbert Carter, Principal J C Dougherty, and teachers Leland S Barkley, Dora Freed, Mabel Sommers, Fannie O’Dell, Hildred Connell, Britta Ketcham, Kathryn Harmon, and Alvin Taylor will staff the grades across all levels.

Mrs Martha Harris of Elmore Township Dies at 73

Mrs Martha Harris aged 73 of Elmore township died at her home in Elnora last Monday from cancer of the stomach. Widow of John Harris she is survived by children and many relatives. Funeral held at Burns City Thursday at 10 AM with burial in Williams cemetery.

Bredens Family Moves to Danville for Railway Job Change

Mr Bredens and family relocate to Danville next week due to his new Railway Postal Service post. GUB Church members hosted a farewell at the Bredeen home Tuesday night. The Thimble Club held a similar reception Wednesday night. The community will miss the family.

38th Homecoming Closes Quietly After Successful Week

The 38th annual Old Settlers homecoming ended Saturday after a well attended event with ideal weather and orderly conduct. Races drew big crowds, concessions stayed busy, and awards were handed for crops, displays, and notable participants. Local officials noted a largely tranquil gathering with several minor incidents resolved by the marshal and court.
