Local residents visit for Old Settlers event and activities

Charles McNeely from Indianapolis visited relatives here last week. Mrs. Frank Sturgeon and daughter Beverly also from Indianapolis spent a few days with her parents. Numerous other visitors from Bedford Chicago Indianapolis Corydon East St. Louis and Flat Rock joined Old Settlers events and social visits. A watch was left at Freeman's restaurant and a two week trip to Ottawa Kansas and Petoskey Michigan were noted.

Old Settlers Honor Lincoln Statue At Odon Event

The thirty first Old Settlers Meeting closed after a dust troubled weekend with large day crowds and night crowds meeting in better attendance. The Lincoln statue gift by Ira correll drew a great audience as Alf Beasley E T Laughlin readings by Will Barr and Ben Helm's vocal solo highlighted ceremonies. Notable attendees included George Hackler 98 years old and long married couples such as John Cunningham and Burns City 59 years Sears 55 years and Dyer 57 years. The Baby Show drew a big crowd with prizes awarded to Master Charles Trueblood and Margaret O'Brien. The art hall exhibit was small yet high quality with premiums awarded in baking and culinary contests. Continued on page 6

Paraly's Causes Death Paraly's Causes Death

Winfield S Zigler longtime resident died at his home south of Raglesville last Wednesday August 16 aged 68. He was born in Ohio November 23, 1854 and moved to Indiana as a child. Survived by wife six children three sisters one brother fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral at United Brethren church Raglesville with Rev C B Catt in charge. Burial in Raglesville cemetery.

Qdon Wins Again At Southside Park 4 to 2

The Odon White Sox defeated the Linton Giants 4 to 2 before a large crowd at Southside Park Sunday afternoon. Odon scored in the 3rd 5th and 8th innings with two runs in the eighth sealing the win. Gordon Miller pitched for the Giants, but Odon managed enough hits to prevail.

Well Known Resident Emma J. Wilson Dies at Home

Emma Jane Wilson born Emma Jane Patterson March 11 1855 near Cornettsville died at her east Main street home Tuesday from long illness. She wed Joseph Seneff at 19, had six children. he died in 1884, then she married J B Wilson. Survived by husband two sons William Earl Seneff one daughter Mrs. O S Connell eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral Thursday 10 30 from U B church Rev R T Gwyn presiding burial Walnut Hill.

Vacations and Hay Fever Decrease Town Population

Vacations and hay fever keep many Odon residents away this week as families depart for two to six weeks. R F Myers, Dr L E Bowman, Elmer Bunch, N F Barkley, G W Henderson, Dr and Mrs S E Bowman, and William Bowman head to Petoskey Michigan to escape pollen while others tour to Ottawa Kansas and Illinois. Mrs Parner Dyal joins the Ward family for the trip.

Local residents visit relatives and attend Old Settlers

Mrs. Jacob Longcor of Jasonville and Ross McDonald of Indianapolis visited relatives here over Sunday. Walter Boyd and family of Terre Haute joined friends in Rens for a weekend. Herman Lange of Chicago and Henry Crooke of Indianapolis arrived to visit and attend Old Settlers with local families.

Rexall State Mrs W McDonald and daughter Ruth of Lincoln Nebraska are visiting relatives. Miss Chloe Aishe returns to Indianapolis after attending Old Settlers. Mrs Cora Montgomery of Indianapolis visits Chas Breden and Claude Anderson. The Andersons later travel to Washington City. Miss Hazel Cooper returns from Indianapolis fall millinery opening and new fall hats are shown. We are agents for Nubone Corset Company. Mrs Raymond Odell returns to Indianapolis after visiting relatives. she is joined home by Mrs Mary Odell for an extended visit in the capital.
