Baggage Man Killed On Williams Run

Richard Macy a baggage man on the c T H S E was accidentally killed at Williams Tuesday by a revolver that fell from a holster and struck his heart instantly. Macy lived at Terre Haute and was on only his second run on the road. The body was held for a coroners inquest.

Major Levi Ferguson Dies in Kansas

Word reached here of the death of Major Levi Ferguson on August 15 at his home in Wellington Kansas. He was born in 1841 in Pike County Indiana and served as a private in Civil War later brevet major. Ferguson practiced law in Petersburg and Martinsburg and served two terms as county auditor. He moved to Wellington in 1887 and was known among old soldiers and longtime residents.

Runaway Accident Near Odon Injures None

Dr Ira Bowman and Ernest Wirklepleck of Elnora were riding in a buggy pulled by a spirited horse belonging to Oscar Hackler when the horse bolted near the railroad crossing south of town after meeting W B Neeremer. The buggy overturned but the shafts detached, allowing the horse to flee. No serious injuries to the occupants. the horse was later caught in a nearby field.

Shoals Granted Liquor Licenses After Dry Fight

Martin county commissioners in Shoals approved liquor licenses for Wilden Hawkins and Willard Waggoner after a fierce wets and drys dispute. The county seat has been dry for five years and Hawkins planned to start serving within hours of the decision.

The August 27 program at Mud Pike United Brethren Church includes union Sunday school at 9 39 a m, a sermon by Dr Hy Fout of Dayton Ohio at 10 30 a m, and a midday grounds dinner. J M Boyd will speak on Losing the foundation, with greetings from nearby churches. The Odon male quartet and Wa Bair provide readings and music. Dr Font speaks at 3 p m on The place of the country church, followed by the dedication of the house to God and Dr Fout’s final address at 7 50 p m. The event is billed as a major day for the northern Davie s county United Brethren.

Suit Filed By Loogootee Bank Against Van Buren Township

First National Bank of Loogootee sues Van Buren township for 500 alleging a warrant issued by trustee Hiram Sims on approval of the advisory board certified a debt of 400 to the bank paid from the tuition fund with 6 percent interest. The instrument dated January 8 1907 supported wages for teachers. A prior suit on the first warrant fell before appellate court. New state laws may affect the case.

Link Stoy Loses Notable Angu s Cow in Freight Crash

Link Stoy of this place reports a fine Polled Angus cow valued at £20 was struck and killed by a through freight locomotive Tuesday morning after escaping from a pasture on his east farm. The incident was witnessed near the tracks. The funeral and disposal details were not provided.
