Dense notes show the Chautauqua tent arrival and seating setup for United Brethren Iowa Day events. The program includes performances, ticket pricing, and a rush for reduced-price seats as preparations continue for an afternoon start.
An old newspaper fragment reports July and August heat records with detailed daily highs and lows, plus a long column of local social notices. It mentions friends and relatives visiting, church events, funerals, and a county United Brethren rally with hundreds in attendance.
The body of Frank Duane, a World War I soldier killed in action in Argonne Forest France on August 17 1018, was laid to rest last Sunday at Walnut Hill Cemetery. A large crowd attended the First Christian church service at 10:30 led by Rev Edwin Shake with Rev R R Cleaver. A complete military burial was provided by Oden Post American Legion. He was about 25 and survived by five brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. W. W. Moore died at Vincennes Hospital after surgery for cancer. Funeral services were conducted at Mud Pike church, 10:36 Sunday morning. She was wife of W. W. Moore and mother of four. Burial followed at Walnut Hill Cemetery after the body was moved to her former residence city.
Local obsequies and social visits fill the Plainville region as families attend the funeral of Mrs Acnes Nelswander. Residents report relatives visiting from Indianapolis, Decker, Lyons, and Bloomfield, with multiple families hosting gatherings and trips to nearby towns. A festival at St Josephs church netted 255 dollars, while local baseball teams played losses and wins at St Marys and Odon.
A large family reunion gathered at Mr. and Mrs. ALG Williams burme south of the city last Sunday. Many relatives traveled from distant towns including Siro Williams and Mrs. Walter Williams of Canerville, Austin and family of Elnora, Richard Williams family, Albert Williams family of Indianapolis, QC Hutt of Crothersville, Lee Wil-Butes of Terre Haute, and others. A noon luncheon featured a notable denture of the day. All children and grandchildren attended.
The Odon Drug Co along with the Chautauqua and Olid Settlers marks its fourteenth year in business in the city. The firm reports improvements this year and notes cash sales fell by 248.08 from last year but remains 21,585.11 ahead of prewar normals.
OUG Laughlin and family of Or leags visited relatives in this city this week.
