Eliza Sears Sommers Pioneer Widow Laid to Rest

Eliza Sears Sommers, aged about 62, longtime resident and pioneer of the area, died after a long illness. She was married to Jacob Sommers in 1876 and leaves three children Chester, Russell, and Lillie Cox, plus sister Mrs. Rebecca Irwin Elnora. Funeral Wednesday at 2:30 at the Christian church, with Rev. Trusty and Rev. Seth officiating. burial at Walnut Hill.

Odon chapter completed the relief garment quota sending 110 morning jackets 47 hospital shirts 4 bed socks 6 knit socks and 1 comfort. Southern Van Buren forms a Junior Red Cross under Miss Doyle with Mrs M O Pate and Mrs Wadsworth sewing at the Red Cross Room. Ladies are invited to quilt and help complete the project at once.

Miss Keezer from the Pur due Home Economic Department will demonstrate the latest approved canning methods for vegetables and fruits. The service is at 9:30 AM on Tuesday August 6, and every housewife should attend. Bring an empty can and can rubber if you have items to save.

Local notes from Raglesville community weekly report

Mrs. Scholar Ketchem warned Mulberry visitors from her parents Mr and Mrs Rey Dyal south of Raglesville. Dozens of residents near here hosted relatives while news covered farm incidents a team of mares struck by lightning killed one horse and likely killed the other. Downpour benefits crops and several local families attended visits across Ashland and Indianapolis with Dr Marshall of Odon noted.

Crooke Family Holds First Reunion Since 1905

The Crooke family held its first reunion since 1905 at the home of Mr and Mrs Ol Crooke on Sunday. Present were Owen Crooke Mr and Mrs Walter Crooke and son Dallas and Mr and Mrs Henry Crooke and daughter of Indianapolis Mrs Maud Abel and daughters of Washington DC and Miss Mary Crooke of this city. Several members returned to Indianapolis and Washington DC after the visit.

Death notice for Lenza Carroll in Tennessee lightning incident

Word was received this week of the death of Lenza Carroll killed at Nashville by lightning. The body was shipped to Sandborn yesterday and the funeral service will be held from the Christian church at Enora this morning at 10 o'clock.
