Sheriff Fitzgerald appoints R. A. Chattin deputy sheriff to replace Friend Colbert who returns to his Veale township farm after serving one term as county recorder and then deputy sheriff. Chattin is a Washington township resident who taught school in Staele township last winter.

Seven Linton patrolmen raided the Blue Goose gambling resort run by Millard Ingaile on a Saturday night. They arrested thirty one men and twelve women, confiscated gambling paraphernalia, and surrounded the house so no one escaped. Most arrestees were local farmers or married men. women paid fines and were released.
In Vincennes Sunday afternoon, baseball players were arrested and ordered to appear in police court as police commissioners test Indiana law on Sunday games. Six attorneys volunteered to defend the players as the mayor and other officials back Sunday ball, under orders from Governor Hanly.
A fire at the Selfrige Hotel in Jasonville destroyed the three story frame building last Thursday afternoon. Estimated loss about 810,000 with little insurance. Fire started from a gas plant inside the hotel. flames reached the third floor before responders. Most guest personal effects were saved. fire lasted about two hours. The hotel had opened last August at a cost around 810,05, with fire proof plaster slowing spread.

Walter Tyner, formerly county coroner and secretary of the Republican county central committee, fled last night for parts unknown.
