Mrs Nancy Helm Dead In Odon After Illness

Nancy Ebner Helm a long time respected resident of Odon died at her home after a cancer illness. Born in Ripley Indiana in 1855 she was 68. She married Eli B Helm on Feb 25 1871 and left eight children plus a stepfamily. Survived by a brother two sisters and several relatives. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 PM at the M E Church with burial at Walnut Hill.

Auto Crash Injures Four Men Near Elnora and Plainville

A Ford driven by Cal Miller lost control and overturned into a ditch around eleven yesterday. Ex Sheriff Fielding Colbert Irvin Williams of Washington William Young of Terre Haute were thrown from the vehicle. Williams suffered internal injuries and three broken ribs. Miller and Young were bruised. Colbert and Williams were treated by doctors Freshely and McHittick and rested at Ben Corlett’s home. The car from Elnora belonged to the Miller livery and garage.

Nugent Arrested on Eight Indictable Charges

Thomas Nugent auditor of Davies Co was arrested last Thursday by Sheriff Harmon at Elnora. Bail set at 500 on each of eight affidavits alleging defacement of loan records, embezzlement, and misappropriation from the county fund and as agent for multiple individuals. He posted bond and hired several lawyers to defend against state charges stemming from a state board of accounts report.

No Through Trains For 3 Weeks On C E I Rail Line

The C E I announces no through service for about three weeks likely longer. Passenger runs persist Washington to El bora Petersburg to Evansville and Worthington to Terre Haute. A temporary river trestle will be built near Rogers instead of re building the bridge with piling cemented to river bed due to solid rock. North of Elnora work speeds up with pile driver to start this week. Between Elnora and Worthington conditions are the worst with crews replacing roadbed and tracks.

Trestle Collapse Kills One. Ten Injured Near Vincennes

Four gravel cars crashed through a trestle west of Vincennes on Saturday leaving ten injured, one fatally. Victim Ward Corneilison, eighteen, recovered from wreckage at 6 50 Sunday. railroad says all employees accounted for.

Lake Conunity Times reports Indiana Harbor entrants Miss Blumenthal and Reuben Levin won top honors at the East Chicago Oratorical Contest held at the Methodist Episcopal church. Levin spoke the closing defense from Clarence Darrow. Blumenthal performed a scene from The Lion and the Mouse. A record crowd praised all contestants and gold medals were awarded.

Second Graduation Examinations Set for April 19

The second examination for graduation from common schools will be held Saturday April 19 at several townships including Liir Cannerburg Bogard Elwore Madison Van Buren Onion Reeve Steele Harrison Veale Washington and the county superintendent's office. Open to eighth grade pupils only, seventh graders are not allowed. A number of white oak fence posts for sale at 12 1 2 cents each while they last by W B Neeriemer.

Harry O'Dell, set to graduate from Indiana University School of Medicine in June, earned third in a three day competitive exam among sixteen candidates from the Gitcaye Cincinnati and Indiana Medical Schools. He will serve as house physician at Indianapolis City Hospital starting in June.

Surprise Dinner at Eads School Honors Teacher

Patrons and friends at the Eads school surprised Miss Beryl O'Donald with a large dinner to celebrate the close of the term and recognize her tireless work. A pleasant afternoon program followed the meal at the school house.

Newberry Man Dies in Jail After Intoxication

Frank Skomp, a Newberry resident, died in the town jail early Sunday after being placed there by Marshal D K Chambers for disturbing the peace. An inquest returned a verdict of acute alcoholism. Skomp, 40, was well known in Greene County and northern Daviess. Funeral held in Newberry.

Cars derail east of town derailment delays traffic

Two cars to a South eastern extra freight east of town were wrecked Saturday afternoon and traffic on that line was delayed several hours. No one was injured in the accident.

Married couple from Illinois wed at U B Parsonage

George Standford and Miss Silva Frexter of Illinois united in marriage at the United Brethren parsonage Monday at ten o'clock with Rev. T A Garrett officiating. They will return to Illinois to make their future home.
