Local High School Sets Baccalaureate and Commencement Plans

Two weeks remain for final preparations for the graduating class of the local high school. The baccalaureate address will be given by Rev. Allen C. Trusty of the First Christian Church of Linton. Commencement speaker Dr. C. T. Culp of Cleveland will discuss Things Worth While. Commencement is set for the M. E. Church on Thursday night April 27. Prohibitionists Elect County Officials at Elnora Convention

Ransom Pope of Elnora was elected county chairman and George Wyers of Elnora secretary treasurer at the Prohibitionists convention held in Elnora Monday afternoon. About 150 to 200 attendees heard sessions at the opera house and Methodist church. Delegates to the Indiana state convention in Indianapolis June 6 and 7 were chosen, with F W Lough and John Huddleson among notable attendees. Names of delegates include A J Biddinger Mrs Biddinger, Ransom Pope Mrs Pope, Woodson Murphy, George W Myers, Rev S J Shake, Rev M R Key, L C Sears, Adam Isenogle, Harry Isenogle, W R Watt, Thomas Young, Charles J Keith, John Gilliatt, Milo Smiley.

Annual School Exhibit Opens Friday Afternoon

The exhibit starts at 2 p m on Friday April 21 and closes at 5 p m the same day. The public is invited to attend and view the displays. Remember the date and attend.

Odon organizes a 1916 ball team with three out of town players and Asa or Whirlwind Williams joining the pitching staff. Holt handles receiving, Cooper at first, H Sears at second, D Sears at short, Cody Kallion at third, with McCoy Gantz and Hasler in the outfield. The management predicts a glorious season for the Odon crowd.

Van Buren Rejects Improved Roads Project

Van Buren township voters defeated the plan for improved roads by 287 votes, choosing to retain existing conditions while neighboring townships advance high quality highways to benefit the county. The result ends the effort to join the county road program.

Township Sunday School Convention Planned at U B Church

The Sunday Schools of the township convene at the U B church in this city Sunday at 2 PM with a program including songs, devotions by Rev. Trowbridge, a history address by J M Boyd, recitation by Mrs Joe Callahan, an appointment of nominees, an address on organized work by R W Hyndman, and remarks by the County Secretary followed by benediction Rev Roberts. Rev A C Trusty has moved to Lincoln to lead the First Christian Church there.

Paper prices rise nationwide as war strains ink supply

The article notes paper costs soar since before the Civil War with news stock at 80 dollars per ton. Half the raw material comes from France, England, and Russia, prompting mills to close. On June 1 subscriptions rise to 1.50 annually, 75 cents semiannually, 40 cents quarterly. old rates honor until June 1. Job work prices will follow stock prices at order time.

Surprise Neighborhood Farewell at Maryfield Home

J H Maryfield and family returned from church to a party of about seventy five relatives and neighbors with baskets of food occupying the home as he moves to Sullivan County this week. A group photo was taken as a keepsake and neighbors expressed regret at losing a good neighbor. Robi Mason moved his family from the Sturgell property in Cooper town to the Taylor property in west Odon. J H Sturgell moved into the property vacated by Mason.

Eighth Grade Graduates Pass March Exam Across Townships

Two hundred thirteen eighth graders took the March 4 graduation exam with 136 earning passing marks. Passing requires a general average of 75 and no subject below 5. Township lists show many names per district. Washington students sit tests Saturday. Commencement likely in June.
