London finds may reveal female gladiator grave
Archaeologists at the Museum of London report what may be the first female gladiator burial in Roman London. A young woman in her 20s was buried with high status grave goods, including a dish bearing a fallen gladiator image and eight lamps, plus exotic incense remains. Experts call it 70 percent probable she was a gladiator, with the grave excavated in 1996 and now analyzed. A show at the British Museum will contrast with a two-woman gladiator relief carving.
