Color atoms on film reveal a new world in motion
University of Chicago researchers led by Albert Crewe and Michael Isaacson unveil color motion pictures of individual atoms made with the world's most powerful scanning electron microscope. The images show platinum and uranium atoms in dynamic motion, revealing that solids are a sea of swarming atoms and enabling new study of how atoms cluster and bonds form.
